just to add my two penneth'.i travelled down from nottingham on friday with two friends, neither of whom had seen the band before and knew no more than teenage kicks and my perfect cousin. i had the most fantastic time, it was brilliant, my two mates said it was quite superb! (they were in the mosh pit all night) you have two more converts to the cause and one old rocking hummdinger who is really chuffed. please return to england fo another gig

Adrian on ? GMT #87d-166
Sorry for the radio silence.i,ve not been around all week. So,was that the best weekend since you were 14 or what, top entertainment! By the way the Witnness festival is in Meath not Dublin, this may seem like a small detail, but suggest to a Meath man he's a Dub and you won't make him happy.

Adrian on ? GMT #87d-167
p.s.Note to the Fiddler please put something soft on that barrier the next time the 'tones play(if We All Pray For It,who Knows!)my ribs are still in bits!

Am having trouble with lyrics to the first verses of 'male Model' and 'when Saturday Comes' . can anyone enlighten me ?

Paul Fixter @ on ? GMT #87d-170
I didn't know the Undertones were back touring, albeit without Sharkey! Can they come to Leeds or Manchester? There's some great venues in Leeds. I am only a young 'un of 22, but discovered The Undertones when I was 16 and they're quality! Cheers!

Lindsay (aka. 'leeds lass' in Malc's review) on ? GMT #87d-171
Paul - your note confirms what I suspected - it's not just us 'oldies' who like the band. The younger members of the audience at the Fleadh (after the initial 'who on earth are this lot' looks on their faces) soon started jigging around like the rest of us, probably 'cause the music is a welcome change from the boring indie bands and soul-less dance rubbish they have to listen to nowadays. If the boys decide to come over again, I would also welcome a 'northern' gig (what's the Irish Centre in Leeds like? I know 'whizz Kids' Slf - sorry to mention them on these pages - did a gig there a couple of years back).

Cliff @ on ? GMT #87d-172
Hey Lindsay, aka Leeds lass,it's great that you've kept that 20 year old t-shirt I wish I'd seen it at the Fleadh.however, maybe it's time to invest in a brand, shiney new one and I know exactly where you can get them-but hurry stocks are running low. As for the gig up north, looks to me like anywhere around Yorkshire would be a sell out taking into account messages from Nott'm,leeds, newcastle,s'land.

Paul Fixter @ on ? GMT #87d-173
The Irish Centre in Leeds is as good a place as any, but it's not in the town centre. I was thinking more on the lines of the Town & Country - is it still open? Do Scruffy Murphy's have bands on? If so, I doubt it would be big enough anyway - The 'tones would pull in a right crowd!

hugh on ? GMT #87d-174
Just a note about all this "irish centre" stuff. I know they played the Fleadh but please don't confuse The Undertones with bands like The Saw Doctors. I know you are well meaning but they were never the type of band to aim for that easy nationalistic, Celtic jersey wearing audience. Their great pop songs can stand on there own.

Paul Fixter @ on ? GMT #87d-175
'Leeds Lass' asked about the Irish centre, so I answered her. As for the Scruffy Murphy's bit - this is merely a pub in Leeds that has bands on (i believe), so the fact it is Irish is a coincidence! I wasn't making a big thing of Irish centres, Hugh, so settle down matey!:-) Cheers - Paul

I was sent some great old stuff on video today.i get the impression most of you have old 'tones stuff but I seem to have missed out somewhere along the line.about a year ago the Hitchin gig was shown on a cable channel and I recorded it but it wasn't very good.the one I've got today shows Jimmy Jimmy, julie Ocean and My perfect cousin on Totp and it was like going back in time.also 8 live songs(virtually my favourites)from 'campus Rock'(what is that?)and other general stuff.some of you might be thinking it's no big deal coz you've all got this on tape but it's all new to me. Lots of Feargal's mannerism's which I'd forgotten about,i.e.squatting down and appearing to be in pain when he sings!and chain smoking while singing 'get over you'.mickey messing about in the background and John wearing the old Chelsea 'umbro' shirt.aaahhh Undertones Heaven ! Come on lad's you've had a rest-time for a couple more gigs please! P.s.still gutted about nasty England !

Interested to read that Damien was interviewed by a 'phelim O Neill' in the Guardian. Do he and John have a journalist brother with a bad cough? On a more serious note (only more serious if you found the last comment remotely funny) - What happens now? After the last weekend we know they sound as good as ever even if sensible Feargal doesnt want to come out to play. I was very worried about a comeback cos they are usually pretty dodgy but judging by the comments on these pages we all( and the band by the looks of things) had a ball and want to do it again. But are there more gigs due? I thought the dates played were mainly to help out with the Nerve Centre and afterwards Billy and John planned to work and write together but not as The Undertones. Have I made this up or is there any truth in this (just say yes - I want more J O Neill songs!)after the last gigs I am sure we all want to see them again but when or how often. The Festival idea is good or some one off gigs but I wouldnt like to see my favourite band doing a Status Quo (better not mention Mr Glitter) Christmas tour every year or a 50 date tour of large pubs. Dont get me wrong I am totally converted to the Undertones 2 and want more gigs (and a video of the Fleagh) but still want to keep it fresh and as good as it was last weekend. Does anyone know their plans or what do you all think the next step should be? Lastly, my friends and family would like to thank this website for giving them some peace from me droning on at length about The Undertones. unbelievably, there are some lost souls out there who are not concerned about the lyrics to the first verse of 'male Model'-their loss. Over to people who care.

Cliff @ on ? GMT #87d-178
I share your thoughts and feelings Donald,as I'm sure we all must on this site.it was fantastic that the 'tones play again but all they've gone and done now is wetted our appetite for more.i'm sure if leading up to Xmas they played several gigs in various Cities they'd get the same response as the weekend.and how about a 'live' Album(or whatever they're called these days!)from the new band as has been mentioned before.on the 'punk top 10' John does mention about doing something with Billy again, but as you say it's not the 'tones.all we can do is wait and see.don't forget we still have Dublin and I shall be there!. Oh,dave, before you pick me up on it,it was Damian wearing the Chelsea shirt!

Dave Richings @ on ? GMT #87d-179
Cliff, I hope you're not suggesting that I'm something of a trainspotter?! The clip you make reference to heralds from the 'something Else' show from, I believe, 19.01.80. The band performed 'there Goes Norman' & 'my Perfect Cousin' live in the studio. Rudi also appeared on the same show. Sorry, but I don't know what they had to eat on the day.!
