The VH1 coverage was really fast cutting I felt quite old. Did you see the shots from the stage into the audience it was awash with gyrating souls. Cliff @ on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-241 Hey Lindsay, what about the rest of us ? I havent got it on tape either. And Rick: Damian,Billy and yours truly obviously all use the same face cream !. Mark on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-242 Very true Rick. Damian doesn't look any different from the early eighties. Me and my hairline parted company five or so years back, but Damian's five years older and a full head of hair! Sadly I didn't get to see VH-1...I was stood next to the bare bossomed lass...did she get a mention, she almost had my eye out. Did someone say no Wednesday Week or You've Got My Number on VH-1? What did they show? I have to say I saw them at the Mean Fiddler on the Friday night and they were outstanding. ©® on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-243 Lindsay, I took the pictures that appear on the Fleadh page. I also took a couple of the Happy Moshers which CMoS said he would put up but he HASN'T! Dunno if it was me you saw on VH1 cos I aint got cable. On the other hand, if some kind soul were to take pity on me and send me the video I may be able to confirm it . . . . . . . . :-) Billy Doherty (Drummer of The Undertones) on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-244 Hello Folks, I'm sitting in a Cyber Cafe in Dublin (Tue 11/07) reading your messages. Meeting up with Paul McLoone (Singer of The Undertones)tomorrow to chat about the Witness show in August. Speak to you later. Billy Mark on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-245 How's it going Billy.....thought you might be at work! Can you let us into any secrets....is the Witness Show going to be our last chance to see The Undertones? Of the shows that you have done, have they been better (or worse) than you expected? I ask this assuming you will be reading through these messages pretty soon! Its no good I have to ask, a video, have you any plans to release anything on video from the shows? Hope to hear from you.Mark. Lindsay on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-246 Hey guys, three copies is the best I can do (I've only bought a 5-tape pack and have already promised two copies to friends) so George, Cliff and City Rocker, send me an address via email (see below) and hopefully I can make the copies at the weekend (and you all owe me a pint!). Cliff @ on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-247 I've got the Fleadh on video now and most of us must be in there somewhere. There's an Indian guy at the front really getting into 'perfect cousin' he's wearing a suit and tie giving the impression that he'd come straight from a wedding ! Another bloke to the side of the main bunch wearing one of my white design t-shirts,very close cropped hair, slightly greying (who isn't!)must be from the website,is that YOU?. Simon Ward on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-248 As I was idly flicking through TV channels late at night the other day (as you do) imagine my surprise when I stumbled across Mickey Bradley (BPU) talking to Eamonn McCann (Derry pundit) about the Undertones etc. This was on the Travel Channel, and was actually a sort of holiday programme to tempt tourists to Derry (!). If it ever surfaces again it would be worth the cabled-up guys looking out for it. Mickey had some very interesting things to say, in particular that the Undertones, especially him, John and Billy, and Damien to a lesser extent, were not particularly interested in 'success' - they just wanted to be good. The only one who was really interested in success was, you guessed it, Feargal. And of course, after he left the Undertones, he got it... Mark on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-249 Cliff, I've enjoyed really enjoyed reading your reviews. Imagine say, five years putting a bet on The Undertones playing....a small club, all the early songs and playing, minus the perceived singer/songwriter...you'd have been marched off and sedated. Not only that, they seem such genuine, unaffected people. I thought when I was going to the Mean Fiddler, I would be the only 'saddo'. It was almost surreal hearing You've Got My Number, Get Over You, Here Comes The Summer etc... sounding exactly as it does on CD or as it did when you were 17. I have to confess after the first couple of minutes, I didn't notice Fergal wasn't there! Its like the old buses saying: wait for 17 years and then two come along at once!. I've been a fan for 20 years, from hearing 'Jimmy Jimmy' on John Peel, I never managed to see them live first time round. 'That weekend' was great, I went with my best mate from school, Steve, who was always a big Undertones fan, and had the records etc. Its now you look back on the weekend and think, wow (er..fab, groovy). Wonderful. Cliff @ on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-250 Thank's Mark, nice to know you're not the only 'saddo' isn't it! Yes,it has all been a bit surreal this year hasn't it.The Undertones to me were everything I'd wanted in music wrapped up in one band.I like the aggression of punk, the melody of a good pop song and the tune and the emotion of a good balad, even now they are the only band that can do all of those things on one record and they could do it over and over again.Add to that the band themselves,Simons comments below about MB's interview sum it all up really. The fact that they (Feargal apart)wanted to be good,in preference to being successful,is pretty unique. It say's a lot about them and tells you why there was no image,it just wasn't what it was all about. donald (sadly not anything in the undertones) @ on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-251 Thought Id come on and have a whinge.Got back from holiday on Tuesday - phoned a (now ex) friend who had promised to tape the Fleadh, (I even wrote it in her diary) and she forgot just because she crashed her car in the afternoon - pathetic excuse! If this tragic story has stirred anyones heartstrings who has a copy .......! The Feargal vs the undertones debate - my 50pence worth for what its worth (around 50p). Feargal was a unique singer with fantastic stage presence and a huge part of the undertones. However,he did seem to act superior to the rest of the band and fans. He was nothing without the band as anyone who was unluckily enough to see the solo shows will testify - Feargals voice without the O'Neill (+Bradley)tunes and backing vocals (doit doit doit doit)of the undertones was a depressing frustating experience. (OK a no1 record may count but that was written by Maria Mckee whos cool anyway). On the other hand the band without Feargal were still stunning. Probably best to concentrate on the present and not the past- doit doit doit doit .. why dont you send me a video nowwwwwwwwww (please). Cliff on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-252 Hey Lindsay, yes I've seen you and Al on the Fleadh vid.Your shown 3 seperate times during TK ,once hanging round his neck! What's the t-shirt you're wearing ? Also City Rocker is seen pogoing and I think I even saw myself during 'Perfect Cousin' (or did Michael Douglas make a surprise appearance ?) Lindsay on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-253 Just spent all morning video taping the VH1 coverage (had to listen to it 6 times over - hard life isn't it!). Anyway, as Cliff and CR have got tapes now, I've 2 spare - do you want them Mark and Donald? If so, see my message 10/7 and email me. (George, your copy will be in the post Monday). PS. Thanks for the cassette Cliff but please don't look at me on the video - I like to think I could pass for Posh Spice on a good day but in that T-shirt it's more like Old Spice. I'll just tie it round myself in future. Cliff on 05:02 17th-Jan-00 GMT #87d-254 Lindsay, don't put yourself down, you don't look anything like posh spice! and if you don't think your t-shirt is very flattering you could always invest in a lovely new one,and I know just the place.......
