Musings
I think 'Lets Talk' has now been repaired - Sorry VINNY on ? GMT #87d-286 Cliff, the programme you mentioned that was on the other night was called 'NO DISCO' a NETWORK 2 programme here and it featured a long interview with John and Michael as well as clips from My Perfect Cousin video and some 80's live material. I set the timer to record the repeat at the weekend, it was on at 4am!! Today on BBC1 as part of CBBC there is a programme called UKOOL and it features Derry, mentions The Undertones. I was the cameraman on it and it was made by BBC Scotland. It's on at 5.10pm and is a network programme. Looking forward to the weekend See ye's Cliff on ? GMT #87d-287 Thanks for that info Vinny,I've just seen the programme (UKOOL).It's a kids programme and they did a short piece about Derry. They showed 'planet football'which is where all my adventures in Derry began thanks to the owner. The young girl who introduced the piece said,"The most famous band from Derry is The Undertones" and the kid behind her was kicking the air.She asked him what he was doing and he said "Teenage Kicks!it was their most successful single" (well he tried his best I suppose !)They went on to show the Nerve Centre and a young band. Lindsay on ? GMT #87d-288 I saw the program too (and Vinny's credit at the end). The Nerve Centre looked smaller than I imagined but what a great place for the young musicians of Derry - no Mrs Simms's shed for them! On behalf of those of us who can't make it to Dublin next Saturday, we expect a full review of events from those of you who can. VINNY on ? GMT #87d-289 Lindsay, the venue shown in the piece was The Nucleus Centre which is a lot smaller than the Nerve Centre. The piece was cut so quick that it was hard to tell where they were talking about. I had to lie down after watching it, getting old!!?? Donald on ? GMT #87d-290 Thanks for e mail Cliff, Ill be in touch soon. Hope your banner and T Shirt are folded and bag packed for Meath - Im very jealous. Is there any TV festival coverage Vinny for us poor souls who cant make it? VINNY on ? GMT #87d-291 Donald, I think Irish station TV3 are covering the event, not 100% sure. Will obviously know more on Sat!! Billy Doherty (Drummer The Undertones) on ? GMT #87d-292 Hello folks, Rehearsals have been going well. The final one will be tomorrow. We recorded an acoustic version of My Perfect Cousin for the Today FM radio show in Dublin. It will be transmitted on Thursday morning. It is the first time since 1982 since we last recorded and I must say that we all enjoyed it. Anyway , I hope to see you all at Witnness (If you can make it). Take care. All the best , Billy. Cliff on ? GMT #87d-293 That sounds interesting Billy,Will it be on the 'b'side of the next single?!. Cliff @ on ? GMT #87d-294 Can anybody out there give me some idea of the other bands at Meath,I'm hopelessly out of touch with todays music! this is the Saturday line up: < David Gray - Ocean Colour Scene - Leftfield - Undertones - Happy Mondays - Death In Vegas - Super Furry Animals > My wife has a CD of DG which sends me to sleep,OCS were on TFI Friday a few weeks ago and sounded OK,I know a little bit about HM,but not a clue on the rest. Also on the list is Bjorn Again and I know you're gonna laugh but I think Abba are excellent so I'll enjoy them.Any feedback please ? Donald @ on ? GMT #87d-295 Line up is superb Cliff (although with the abba comments Im not so sure youll agree!). Leftfield's first album Leftism is my favourite album of the 90's (and Hypnotised my favourite 80's album so its in good company)Sorry, going a bit Trainspottery here, oh sod it - whats everyone elses top 5 albums. Death in Vegas are dancey are well but with loads of of big guitar samples (for those who miss the clashing of geeeetars) where Leftfield are heavy on drums. Dance music with soul definitely no handbags. Probably two of the best bands around just now but I hope they are prepared to be internetn off stage by the best of them all. Enjoy the day all who are going. donald - the tough swearer on ? GMT #87d-296 Great.. I didnt write anything rude only ..bl0wn off stage with an o but looks like its upset the internet nearly a rude word Police - rock n roll. On the subject Super Furry Animals have a great song called 'The man dont give a fu*k' -with a c! Pete the lurker @ on ? GMT #87d-297 Cliff - don't go down the front for Leftfield - they're one of the loudest bands around (they did the music for the Guinness ad with the horses if that helps you place them). SFA are good, as are Death in Vegas - obviously none are a patch on the mighty 'Tones!! I don't suppose anyone has any way of getting a recording of tomorrows Today FM broadcast or the TV3 broadcast?( a bit late...a bit hopeful.... a bit cheeky.....) Here's another vote for it being a 'b' side - better get writng that 'a' side boys!! Jealousy will be rearing it's ugly head on Saturday from the non traveling posse Cliff (not too proud to admit he likes Abba) on ? GMT #87d-298 Thanks for that info chaps, yes the Guinness advert does give me some idea Pete (there used to be a band in Southend called the Lurkers).Anybody else ? ©® on ? GMT #87d-299 Cliff I thought you would be big into the Happy Mondays since they were at the forefront of the BAGGY scene! >>football reference alert<< Produced some of the best indie/dance crossover tunes of the late 80s/early 90s and supported Oasis @ Wembley the other week. Check out 'Bummed' and particularly 'Pills n Thrills n Bellyaches'. OCS do good powerful bluesy guitar stuff and a strong live show but they fall way short of the exhilaration of a 'Tones gig (but then doesn't everybody?). Leftfield are worth a look if you like cool atmospheric punky techno (John Lydon collaborated on the Leftism album). Anyway Donald, great trainspottery idea to do top fives a la High Fidelity, my favourite book. Anyone seen the movie yet?
