I've said it before-I do like it when Rick stirs it up but what else is an impotent deity supposed to do! Joking - dont take the replies too seriously either Rick. I suppose it does look like a small club sometimes but thats mainly because there are a small group of regular contributers/sh1tet@lkers. I am one of the guilty party as I will talk about any old rubbish for hours (even westlife and particularly Snorkel parkas). It needs the other people who regularly read these pages (and there are lots) to join in and generate new topics and if Undertone related all the better.

I think you'll find the first two have been covered Rick. I mentioned on here a couple of months ago the handful of 'tones tracks i wasn't keen on and asked for others opinions but nobody responded(made me feel unloved and unwanted). For the record,"Jump boys","positive touch"(although I like the intro)"Love Parade","got to have you back", "window shopping", "Like That". First heard "Jimmy Jimmy" (isle of wight, I think)and had to find out everything about them. When I found out they'd already made some brilliant singles I couldn't understand how they'd escaped me.

Thats right Donald, many people leave one message then disappear. They must all have an Undertones story to tell, come on you lot out there, dont be shy!.

1st heard The Undertones with JJ on TOTP - bought green vinyl single next day and never looked back. Maddest gig Dead Kennedys,Glasgow 16yrs old. 2 mods on scooters attacked by queue before gig, skinheads + Jello fighting when played 'Nazi Punks F**k off'- microphone lost. Scuffles throughout show, I ended up on stage to escape fighting (and to jump about to California Uber Alles!)finally lights went on and bouncers, crowd and police all fighting , myself + mate made swift exit to get the train back to Inverness thankfully unscathed. Eventful anyway.

I would have to think long and hard before admitting to a 'worst Undertones song'. But here's a controversial one for you: the one song on Hypnotised that I habitually skip is: the UK number 9 hit single 'My Perfect Cousin'! I couldn't really tell you why. I always thought it sounded great live and I could always see why it was the band's biggest hit. I guess it was the thin guitar sound on the recording, especially coming as it did as the follow-up single to the mighty You've Got My Number.

Worst Undertones song is Hannah Doot for the stupid title, awful lyrics, unholy mess that is its structure, nondescript chorus, and cringeworthy Damian & Micky backing vocals. Most embarrassing gig moment was when I just had to relieve myself down the front at an outdoor Gary Glitter concert in the mid 80's. As I couldn't move for the crush I did the deed and then when the guy in front of me accused me of dampening his trousers I claimed I'd dropped my can of beer and amazingly he believed me. Can anyone beat that ?

Cliff on ? GMT #87d-1371
I think "Hannah Doot" is great! I find it really moving and a great tune, although the BOING bit is a bit clumsy. "My Perfect cousin" is also right up there among my favourites, even my wife sings along to it in the car(sounds hillarious with her accent, although I dont tell her that!).Well done Rick, you've got us all buzzing again.

I first became aware of the Untertones in 1978 just when my family were leaving Derry to move to England. There was a picture in the Derry Journal all about this group who had just signed a record deal with a major label. The boys names were listed as - wait for it - John O Neil, Michael Bradley, Billy Doherty, 'Fish' Sharkey, and 'Dee Mented'. God we all laughed and thought what a bunch. Then I heard Teenage Kicks on John Peel show and never looked back. It helped that they were from Derry and so was I and I could claim them for my own in my new English School. As for least favourite songs, I never really liked Lets Talk About Girls, or I'm afraid, Beautiful Friend. Load of others from the last two albums are good but just not the same as the energy and beauty of the first two albums. Any news of the support act at the Astoria yet?

Disc 2 of the Ramones is a Botty Vent er v musical. Nick Cave "Murder Ballards" today.

I like fish sharkey and Rick, you're story is a gem, I am giggling as I write.Just bought the All Saints album I'm afraid (I was shoping in Tesco's -they didn't have any Nick Cave).

Donald on ? GMT #87d-1375
I like hannah doot, positive touch and sin of pride. Really dont like Beautiful Friend, and Got TOo Have You Back. Having said that the Undertones worst songs are still better than most bands best ones.

Cliff on ? GMT #87d-1376
Just to make it clear I meant "positive Touch" the track not the superb album. I think both "Beautiful friend" and "Chain of Love" are excellent and I wish the 'new' Undertones would play them as well as "Luxury".The Glitter Band are playing in Southend tonight, shall I, shant I....

Donald on ? GMT #87d-1377
Go on, Go on, Go on, Go on, Go on, Go On I say, I Say. Can only remember 'Angel Face' -excellent. Two drummers beat as one. Shame Mr Glitter had to give up all his work, even the charity gigs. He recently pulled out of Children In Need.

Cliff on ? GMT #87d-1378
"Just for you" and the excellent "The tears I cried",I've got them somewhere.Your a sick man donald (but funny!).
