Can anyone recommend Marc Almond's autobiography (out last year?) - meant to put it on my Xmas list and forgot. Wanted to read about when he used to hang out (not literally, although maybe he did!) at The Warehouse in Leeds. Soft Cell feature on 'I Love 1980' BBC2 on Saturday - maybe The Undertones could be on too, so it's worth a watch. Wouldn't this also be a good time to confess to wearing the black eyeliner at the discos Donald?

...and Say Hello wave goodbye.

Torch, What, Where the heart is, Numbers/Barriers, Soul Inside, Down in the Subway. I think I also have Memorabilia which was released before Tainted Love. I also like A girl with the Patent Leather face which was issued on a compiliation Some Bizarre Lp together with tracks by Depeche Mode, The The, Naked Lunch and others whose names do not spring immediately to mind. I did not wear black eyeliner but I did have the odd frilly shirt.

Donald on ? GMT #87d-2283
No black eyeliner - just the leather studded jockstrap (studs on the inside)and bad dancing! Soft Cell managed to combine good electronic music with soulful lyrics which doesn't happen very often. Great torch songs to sings especially when inebriated. The sleazyness appealed as well especially when your 16. Favourite 12inch is 'tainted love' blending into 'where did our love go'. Must go I cant seem to find my TV dwarf.

Haven't read the MA autobiography. Reading Pete Waterman (SAW) just now - not recommended.Lindsay wasn't there a big scene in Leeds in the 80's? I knew someone who was there and used to hang about with Andrew Eldridge/Wayne hussey of Sisters of Mercy and Pete Burns (dead or alive). Big hair and eyeliner all round - was it something in the water?

I've met Wayne Hussey, top bloke. And his mum! Still rocking with the Mission. Dunno what Wayne's doing though. Ho ho!

Lindsay on ? GMT #87d-2286
Wouldn't know about the Leeds scene around that time Donald - spent the 80s in Liverpool/London. Was the jockstrap a punishment for tank-top wearing in Scotland? Sure ought to be for reading Pete Waterman's biography anyway! George, D.Mode's Photographic (on Some Bizzare LP) - perfect 'headphones song' to get completely lost in (as is most of their stuff). Have single but don't play Say Hello.. by Soft Cell, reminds me of a broken heart. Sob!

Does Pete Waterman's book mention 'The Hitman & Her' shows? In only ask cos Spike and Jimmy (pre-911 days) were resident dancers on it (as was Jason Orange of Take That fame). Jimmy once had to wear a dress. Now if only there was a video...

Donald on ? GMT #87d-2288
He says that the 'Hitman and her' changed the face of television and spawned shows like TFI Friday and all fly on the wall documentaries (he's not modest). No mention of young boys in dresses I'm afraid. He does mention Kylie was lovely and he often used to find her asleep on the couch when he came into work. Now, wouldn't that improve timekeeping at work!

i must admit i'm a big fan of "tainted love" and other soft cell tracks, but not all of their stuff. have you all heard the 9 minute version of "say hello, wave goodbye" on david grays album, i think he really does it justice . you will have no doubt seen marc almon on TV lately, he doesn't look too different (probably on the same tablets as billy DTU ), but what about the other bloke; i think it was dave someone. you wouldn't recognise him if he stood next to you in tescos, and even if he said who he was you'd be hard pushed to beleive him. i too enjoyed the hit man and her, but only for the "her" part of the deal ! ah michela.....

Pete The Lurker on ? GMT #87d-2290
Wasn't the other bloke Dave Ball? I seem to remeber he started a group called the Grid. I think they had a couple of chart hits & then split up.

ian constable on ? GMT #87d-2291
P.T.L. - you're right my man, i'd completely forgotten that about the grid. cheers for reminding me.

Looks like CMoS is working on this page, how about yellow and green stripes?

CMoS on ? GMT #87d-2293
Thanks (Arthur ?) for the reviews - I now have them - the folder - CR photos - Julius' pix to put up.

CMoS on ? GMT #87d-2294
