Sin Of Pride is not as good as the other three but then how do you follow perfection? The 'tones could probably have stayed with the style of the first two albums for a few more years but chose to gamble on a new style,an incredibly brave thing to do in my book.I also listened to it recently and there are some excellent tracks.I remember when "Chain of Love" was reviewed in NME it said you could listen to it "until your ears bleed",it was also released before Boy Georges effort. It's just a bloody good pop song as is "Beautiful Friend"."Bittersweet" has been discussed over and over on here,it is a beautiful song and a huge mistake IMO not to be on the album.I'd agree there are some annoying twangy guitar bits, like the intro to "Concious" and I wasn't keen on the souly type songs "Got to have you back" and the copy of "save me".7/8 good songs on there IMO which is 3/4 more than most albums I've heard over the years.

Sin of Pride contains some of the bands best moments along with some of their worst. Chain of Love is my least favourite Undertones song but you can't fault them for ambition.

I'd like to know what the band think now about The Sin of Pride, cos at all their recent concerts if my memory serves me right the only song they have played from it is Soul Seven, even though Bittersweet is equally as good.

I think there are two reasons for that George.First, the earlier stuff was obviousy more popular, and second a lot simpler to play,no horns, trumpets, female backing vocals etc.

Hugh,I don't think the marching season is an issue regarding going to gigs,is it? From a personal point of view I'm about to embark on a new business venture from August, so as much as I'd like to I can't make any other gigs in Ireland.Thats the propblem with work,it gets in the way.

A belated happy birthday to Billy on 05:56 11th-Jan-01 GMT #9ba-5645
Did we wish Billy happy birthday on the 10th. Did he get any new kit for his drums? Keep us up to date please Billy.

I have to admit to being slightly concerned about possibly attending Belfast on the 5th August. But then with recent events I would have similar concerns about going to Oldham, Burnley etc. In fact any time I go to a new town there is a slight trepidation, but then it is always part of going to somewhere new.

Sin of Pride - I agree with Rick. A few good songs, and The Love Parade is great, but a break was probably needed at this point to let the worst excesses of the 80's die down. In fact when I hear the word "Brass Section" I reach for my machine gun. The only fit place for a "brass section" is with the door handles at B&Q.

Bloody hell shame on us all! Good ol' Billy regularly contributes to this site and as mentioned below WE ALL FORGOT HIS BIRTHDAY!! Sorry Billy,we are not worthy.

Interesting point - any classic albums that contain brass (Specials excepting cos that was well produced)

Great albums with brass? Look no further than 'Scream Dracula Scream' by Rocket from the Crypt.

Jackie on 05:56 11th-Jan-01 GMT #455-5652
Wow you're a fast worker CMoS!! As for the DON pic, does anyone recognise themselves in the background? Also Derek are you the guy who always wore the NCB worker jacket to gigs(cos if you are you're on one of my photos) As for brass 'Searching for the Young Soul Rebels' by Dexys is the only classic LP to do brass well(and a fav of Dee's) I reckon the mispressed Sin of Pride was better than the original, what do you think?

Jackie on 05:56 11th-Jan-01 GMT #455-5653
oops just looked at the credits photos-Derek, you're not Mr. NCB worker, hope I didnt offend you there!

Lindsay on 05:56 11th-Jan-01 GMT #7e7-5654
Great photos Jackie - now why didn't I have a camera with me back then?
