Well just got back,its a bit odd going to Derry in the afternoon and returning home the next morning.The gig was held in a village hall but a good enough size."Jimmy Jimmy" was the opener and was greeted by the locals with a bit of uncertainty("what are we supposed to do?")but once the Derry coach load had got to the front and showed them the ancient art of pogoing normal service was resumed.Great gig,Paul seems to be at the top of his game now,and........I flew back with Damian this morning(Sorry girls!).Report to follow.

Apparently the Bryan Adams gig is for real,later in August with approx 10,000 tickets sold.Also Dublin again at Xmas(probably Dec 20th)and Cork the night before.No news of English/Scottish dates I'm afraid.

Vinny - My phone rang at about 10.20pm last night and you've never seen me move so fast, shouting 'I bet its Lindsay or Cliff from the gig' -visitors thought I was barking. But one ring and it cut off and I couldnt phone back!Thanks for trying L & A though, its the thought that counts.I thought about little else last night!

Don't be so impatient Donald - I can't type any faster!!....It’s hard work you know going to these gigs – not only do you have to cope with a severe lack of sleep, combined with excessive drinking and over exercising (ie. jumping up and down) but then having got back fit to drop you have to use what little brain power you have left to try and write a witty review! Well, here’s my effort (feel free to fall asleep at any time!)…… Derry Journal 19-23 July 2001. Journey started at Liverpool airport where I spotted Rick Wakeman heading off to his tax haven on the IOM. Never a fan but he was on Through the Keyhole not so long ago so he must be famous! Arrived at Belfast half expecting to see Arthur stood with a lobster on one of those cards people hold up. Fortunately we managed to find each other without any announcements over the tannoy for lost humdingers! (thanks again for the lift Arthur and no breakdowns to report!). Our hotel was just round the corner from Good Vibrations and on our way to the famous Crown Inn Saloon, Arthur pointed out the legendary Terri Hooley hammering nails in the shop front. Made a return visit the next day to buy the special edition first LP on vinyl, followed by me posing uncomfortably outside the shop for customary photo – well you have to do these things don’t you! After a beautiful drive up the coast, we finally arrived at the official undertones.net B&B in Derry with everything going according to plan, which meant that something was bound to go wrong soon. Met Margaret at breakfast – a great character, so much so that we generally spent half of every morning chatting instead of the proposed sightseeing – expected Cliff and Henry to arrive any minute but eventually only Henry (minus his bag) turned up with Cliff nowhere to be seen. Murphys Law had struck – and a phone call shortly afterwards confirmed that Cliff needs new glasses to read the road signs!! So, a reduced .net party set off to see the most important landmarks of Derry. You know the ones – The Nerve Centre, The Vibe, Orchard Gallery, site of the Casbah etc. From the city walls, we spotted Bull Park so headed off in that direction. I have to say oneandahalf-a-side football without a ball is not the most interesting of games but at least me and Henry got the photos we’d waited a mere 20 years for. The excitement was now building and even more so later when I spotted Paul McLoone in the Gweedore Bar. Fortunately he remembered me from London (difficult as I was all dressed up this time) and we had a brief chat before the band came on (not the undertones, the Jaywalkers I think Paul said). Sunday - Cliff finally arrived with the banner and a bag of t-shirts - lucky for Henry he’d now have something to wear for the gig as his bag was still missing. Arrived at the bus pick-up point to see a load of teenagers waiting – thought we must be in the wrong place until we saw a few more 30/40-somethings and Wilke waving at us from the other side of the road. Wilke, I have to say, instantly became my best friend when he said I looked much younger than in my STW photo. Later however he did rather spoil things by revealing he’d left his glasses on the bus for safety and couldn’t really see anything! The journey took ages – where were we being taken?? Finally arrived outside what looked like the local cow-shed but turned out to be a large village hall. It was like going back to the early days – small, crowded venue, great atmosphere, impossibly hot inside – bizarre and surreal but bloody brilliant. We knew we were in for a good night! After a stop-off in the pub, we arrived just as the band came on stage and launched straight into Jimmy Jimmy. The chairs along the side proved a good vantage point for us girls, except Damian was out of view most of the time. There was hardly enough room for John on the stage it was that small and Cliff’s banner looked absolutely huge in the background instead of being a bit lost like usual. Henry waved his battered old scarf like a true Bay City Rollers fan and everyone else was in the thick of it at the front. Yes, it was me Donald who was trying desperately to get hold of you but sadly my efforts were all in vain and in the process I went and missed the announcement of my name (pint owed at next gig at the very least!). Time just flew - one classic song after another. Billy with his sparkling red Premier drumkit concentrating hard and Paul falling over by accident? Nearing the end now, so time to leap off the chairs and join the mass at the front for the encores before saying hello to the band backstage. Finally got a picture of me and Damian (he looks great, I don’t as I was doing my usual thing of talking at the wrong time). Outside, the bus was leaving so we all piled in. I agree with Wilke, the bus made a good night into a great one. Singing commenced and, maybe it was the alcohol consumption by this stage I don’t know, but remembering the words was difficult and understanding some of the language for us tourists wasn’t always easy either! Wilke even referred to CMoS as CoSMos and revealed he was Abba’s biggest fan, even more so than the Undertones! (sorry, I think I may have got this wrong!). Anyway, thanks for organising the bus Vinny (and Debbie) – it was a brilliant idea – and it was nice to meet you all. Fantastic and memorable weekend. Loved Ireland and want to return. PS. Sorry I missed you this morning Cliff & Henry – you didn’t really expect me to get up at 7am did you!!

Forgot to add that Damian did say if there was some money in it they would play over here. I offered him a fiver and he accepted so expect an announcement soon perhaps??

What a fantastic weekend in Derry - Edited Highlights ....Jimmy Jimmy played twice, 3 encores, The first sighting of the "Termon Shroud" (copyright M.Bradley), Paul performing in front of the band,rather than hiding behind MB, travelling back on the train from Stansted with Damian and hatching a plan to get Robbie Williams to do a cover version of Wednesday Week so that they can live happily ever after on the Royalties....... meeting some fine and wonderful people for the best ever bus singalong.....Ryanair losing my bag full of tatty clothes, so I can get brand new replacements. Thanks Vinny for organising the transport....I had no idea the gig was so far from Civilisation..by the way that phone call was because I left my gig memento on the Bus...the sold out sign written in turquoise marker pen with the bands autographs...I expect to see it appear on E-Bay in a few years time at great cost, following Robbie Williams 10 Week stay at No 1 with Wednesday Week.

Excellent review Lindsay. Sounds like a great time was had by all. The bus ride sounded great and the venue brings back memories of the early days. I really wish I could have gone. Jackie, brilliant pics. I am definately not N.C.B. man, but I did have a donkey jacket in the earlier gigs and then a belstaff later on, when I followed the tours on a motorbike. I can also confirm it's not me on the inside cover of Hypnotised. Must be George (or John).

Great review Lindsay. Pity I missed the gig. The bus ride sounds almost as good. Still only two weeks to go for my first concert this year.

Henry,along with "Wednesday week" by Robbie Williams, Damian also agreed that "Bittersweet" would be a huge hit if sung by McCartney.
