Musings
all those '60s irwin allen shows (lost in space, time tunnel, voyage to the bottom of the sea, and land of the giants) were all great fun george. not an expert on land of the giants but i do know that when it was made in 1969 it was the most expensive tv show ever and lasted 3 series (about 55 episodes). irwin allen went on to make classic '70s disaster movies poseidon adventure and (my fave) the towering inferno. is this too much information ? Lee on ? GMT #fb0-9586 looks like the criticism i would have aimed at the latest blockbuster should have been aimed at the book and the original film also. i could just about go with the film until the end. can't recall hbc's cheeks i must confess. Lindsay on ? GMT #f5b-9587 george - i can sympathise. land of the giants was terrifying but i was hooked. weren't the guys called mark and steve? (can't remember the girls!). there was one episode when the nasty man trapped one of them in a bottle - why i remember that i don't know! can't share your enthusiasm for poa though (sorry rick) - tv series was really annoying. Jackie on ? GMT #455-9588 poa-class tv and films-as usual i get my kids hooked to anything i like-tones, tintin, planet of the apes-marks and spencer do excellent ape feet slippers and pyjamas.dont worry for kids not adults!! donald on ? GMT #2e9-9589 i enjoyed poa especially the credits at the start (with the slow camera movement over the apes helmet - no sniggering at the back now). i liked the ending but was outvoted 3.1 by those who didnt like it.the towering inferno scared the life out of me as a kid. a great album i have from that time is called something like 'disaster movie themes' - towering inferno, exorcist, rollerball and of course jaws. Derek on ? GMT #9f5-9590 which was the disaster film that you had to wear specs for so you could apparently see in 3d? was that the towering inferno? Rob @ on ? GMT #b83-9591 hi-- could anyone help me locate a copy of the 'tones videos? i would greatly appreciate it; also, www.rhino.com has the "nuggets" series. hope that helps. best regards to all--and buy all the that petrol emotion records! Rick on ? GMT #d8f-9592 i don't remember any '70s disaster movie that required 3d glasses. 3d made a comeback (after it died off in the 1950s) in the early '80s and there was the truly terrible jaws3-d (get it?) starring dennis quaid (hmmm). by the way george i think both cr and myself have highly recommended the nuggets 4 cd box set that came out last year that features tonnes of fantastic 1960's us garage and psychedelia bands and has the original chocolate watch band version of lets talk about girls. GMT #e46-9594 walked out of the film 'heartbreakers' tonight before it finished because it was so bad. what a waste of gene hackman and sigourney weaver. hollywood thinks nothing of spending $100 million on a films special effects but dont seem to bother with any scriptwriters. sorry its nothing to do with music but its good to have a rant sometimes. i've never been able to find the nuggets box set either. Rob @ on ? GMT #e3b-9595 the "nuggets" box set (vol. 1 and the sequel which features original "mod" period british bands) directly from www.rhino.com. phil on ? GMT [www.yesterdayland.com] #29f-9596 this show was set in the near future (the mid-80’s) and focused on the crew of a rocketship: pilots captain steve burton and dan erikson, ship stewardess betty hamilton, entrepreneur mark wilson, heiress valerie scott, young barry lockridge, his dog chipper, and a mysterious government figure named colonel fitzhugh. phil on ? GMT #29f-9597 that web site is a mine of information for anyone wanting to relive their youth (sorry it only goes back to the 60s) phil on ? GMT #29f-9598 p.s. it only lasted two seasons not three according to the site phil on ?
