great, they've moved the film time forward to 2pm, and i've already got my plane ticket.

yes cmos, i did listen to the radio 4 'document' programme. i thought it was going to be about slf but, to my surprise, it was about 'teenage kicks!'. the interviews with john and michael were short but great. anyone else going to the friday screening of 'teenage kicks'?

i've got a tape of the radio 4 programme. the premis of which is a "document" in this case teenage kicks from which the journalist unearths and investigates recent history. it features john and michael and terri hooley. the talk of belfast at that time brought back some memories, not all of them good. the city centre really did shut at 6pm and there was a frightening atmosphere in it. apart from some, love acrosss the baricades stuff that usually makes me cringe - it was a very good programme. interesting for this site because - it places the undertones in context. it also features one of the clash who thought he was going to get shot because he was wearing combat trousers. the point was made several times that punk here and in derry was a much more positive thing than it was in britain. punks here were living in a reality which bands such as the clash aspired to. when there are riots and constant trouble - the mundane of boy meets girl ( boy doesn't meet girl in the tones case) can seem pretty darn good.

was the program too long for a full transcript on here arthur? completely forgot about it due to being ill (hope no-one else gets this flu bug, it's quite nasty). the earlier timing means i can now make the sunday showing but i'm sorry p2 if your message means you can't - is it not possible to change flights? also, does anyone know, do we need to get tickets in advance?

sorry for not keeping up, but can anyone roll up to the london screenings or do you need a special invitation? vinny, any plans for a video or dvd release?

tickets can be booked in advance at the nft box office at the southbank. i'm not sure if they're on sale yet but i am due to get the full programme soon as i am a member of the british film institute - i'll let you all know if i hear they're on sale. the lff normally shows dozens of films and documentaries and all are generally easy to get tickets for unless there is a big hollywood star/director giving a lecture - then they go to the people who organise these things, their friends or celebs. i remember a tarantino one years ago where i was desperate to get tickets and ordered well in advance but didn't get any but saw the likes of the gallagher brothers (no doubt constant bfi members - i don't think) attend. nft 2 is quite small and holds about 100/150 people so may sell out. not sure about the ritzy.

i think i might be able to change my plane ticket, at risk of looking incompetent (no change there). arthur, your comments rung lots of bells. my mum hid my combat trousers back then, and then dyed them black, as she was worried about me going to belfast in them "in case i would get shot as someone would think i was a soldier" - i'd have been mortified if anyone had found this out back then! i never thought my mum would have anything in common with the clash. (apart of course from joe strummer and mick jones' well-known cookery, gardening, jam-making and disciplinary skills). lindsay, sorry to hear about the cold, i have been hoarse for 3 days with it and my wife is getting totally fed up with the night-time coughing. (zinc tablets apparently are the thing to nail it).

just rang the nft. bfi members like me get the programme next week and can order straight away but ticket orders won't be processed until 3 october. tickets go on sale on october 19 to the general public.
