Undertrones....who are they??

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10021
40? what am I on about...make that 60 odd.

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10022
I've heard Arthurs 'Teenage Hits' CD, its pretty good stuff. On the back it has a web address < dressed2kill.co.uk > but I can't get anything.Anyone else want to try? (or could it be that Arthur recorded the CD himself?)

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10023
Surely Vinny or Wilke are aware of 'Jet plane landing'?

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10024
I love 'Stranglehold' and 'Warhead'...a rare(at the time)chocolate coloured vinyl.

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10025
Lee, I have a great album by a group called 'Hagfish'.It's a cross between The Undertones and Ramones and I bought it on the strength of one track I'd heard on MTV (1995).When I got it home I was amazed to see 'Teenage Kicks' as the last track.A brilliant album, right up there with the 'tones first(well, almost).....but TK wasn't a patch on the original.

donald on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #f50-10026
Reading through the local paper an hour ago and whos in town but Jello Biafra. Last saw Jello with the Dead Kennedys in 1982. Nearly got beaten up but one of the best gigs ever. He's doing a spoken word night. Jello Biafra Uber Alles! (except the Undertones).

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #bd3-10027
That version of 'Never mind the Buzzcocks' was on a few months back.

wilke @ on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #8a9-10028
mansu about do you want the donation on the web page or at the gig vinny yes the version tk was good so were can i get a copy ps about the film itself one of my favourite songs made it in to the film but i won`t say i don`t want to spoil it for all the ones who will be going to see it in england so talk to you lot soon bye

Lindsay on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #368-10029
Cliff I don't think it was a repeat, that's the second time JJ has featured on the lyrics round. Go on then Donald, tell us how you were nearly beaten up at the DK gig (a little old lady with a handbag was it?). Rick - is that Classical Punk album still available? I rather like the sound of it.

Jackie on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #455-10030
someone mentioned a feargal sharkey bad video. Well after seeing the Got to Have you back video on Bittersweet VCD I thought I'd seen the mother of bad videos-made by the same production crew as Crackerjack or something...but then again, the 80's was the era of the cheesy video. Nothing can top the My Perfect Cousin video I reckon. Love the bit when John is going into the Guildhall and wipes his nose on his sleeve. Classic!

vinny on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #d12-10031
'jet plane landing' were mentioned in the journal last week i think, must be one of those young people's bands!!!!!!!!

Derek on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #12c-10032
Jackie, The my perfect cousin video is a classic in my view. The 'my life as an undertone' interview with M.B mentions the recording of the video in the O'Neils house where the crew were wondering why the electric suddenly went off while filming. The answer was the meter had run out of 50p's. Now that just adds intrigue to the video and isn't it just a classic Tones story. M.B. tells it better than me.

Julius on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #854-10033
Another cover version of Teenage Kicks is done by The Saw Doctors on their 'to win just once'- Cd single (still available through their website www.sawdoctors.com;just make sure you order the right (live) version of the single). In the sleeve notes it says:'Ever since we had the wonderful privilege of playing this absolute classic with Billy Doherty and Michael Bradley of the Undertones we've been including it in our encore' It is a great version I think! and it was The saw Doctors who started the Undertones comeback!

Jackie on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #455-10034
Bad taste wallpaper Mrs O'Neill!!

George on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #156-10035
Thanks Donald, CR and Julius

Pete The Lurker on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9f4-10036
That classical Teenage Kicks sounds like something I'd like to hear. I seem to remember having Something Happens doing a version of Teenage Kicks, but I can't find it my pile of CDs. Might be the mists of time playing tricks on me.

©® on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #918-10037
On the subject of crap 80s videos, anyone who's got the Moondogs Matinee vids will vouch for the embarrassing cringeworthyness of the production on that - not a reflection on the band's performance by the way, which was GREAT (just in case Gerry Mc reads this!)

Rick on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #c16-10038
Lyndsay - the Classical Punk album by the London Punkharmonic Orchestra (yes quite) is available on 101cd.com on cassette. I would suggest you trawl other sites for the CD though.

Rick on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #c16-10039
CR & I think it was Lee or Vinny - you've both mentioned you've got Moondogs Matinee on video and I know I've asked this before but any chance of copies of those Moondogs Matinee shows for us 'dogs fanatics. I would pay good money.

VINNY on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #5c4-10040
CLASSICAL PUNK-THE LONDON PUNKHARMONIC ORCHESTRA. 'MUSIC CLUB' CD NUMBER MCCD 200. Released by Music Collection International in 1995. I bought mine's by accident at a record and Cd fair but that's another story!!

Rick on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #c16-10043
The other punk songs given the classical reworking on the album (as well as Ever Fallen in Love, Teenage Kicks, Germ Free Adolescence and Stranglehold) are White Riot, Pretty Vacant, No More Heroes, Babylons Burning, Holiday in Cambodia, Down In The Tube Station, Love Song, and Where's Captain Kirk. Some work better than others but its a great album for when all your old punk friends come round for a few drinks and you can play guess the song. Also you can play it when your parents come round and they don't shout 'turn that bloody racket down' to these songs like they used to.

Lee @ on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10044
Rick and anyone else that might be interested - I think I've got 5 of the 7 Moondogs Matinee episodes on video. Quality of film is not the best as they are copies of copies of copies etc. Unfortunately I don't have 2 vcr's to be able to copy them for anyone. If no-one else has both the video's and the technology I could send my video to someone who can do it. Also I have managed to transfer my, again very poor quality cassette recordings of the TV show onto cd so if anyone wants a copy of that let me know.

Adrian on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9af-10045
Wednesday 3rd October 1979,my first Undertones gig at the Hemel Hempstead Pavilion...how old am I feeling right now?!

Rick on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #c16-10046
Lee - I've got 2 videos amd can do tape to tape copies. Would you trust me with your prized possessions to copy and send back to you ? I'm in London. Where are you ?

vince @ on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #b24-10048
cliff whats the name and number of that bed and breakfast in derry

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #09a-10049
Don't trust him Lee ;-))

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #09a-10050
He's in Birmingham Rick...it's just outside West Bromwich.

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #09a-10051
I bet the classical version of 'Babylons Burning' sounds brilliant.

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #09a-10052
Has anybody heard Dr Feelgoods version of 'You got my Number'?(or YGMN-WDYUI..if your CMoS)it's on the 'Brilleaux' album. Not a patch on the original...why is it nobody can get that same great sound the Undertones get? is it just that their so bloody good? I played 'I gotta getta' on the way home tonight and I STILL get that tingle on the back of my neck.(it's nice when you still get a tingle at 40).

Cliff on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #09a-10053
I mean, I think Dr Feelgood are (were)a great band and that Hagfish album is superb...yet when they try Undertones songs it just dosent seem to work.

wilke @ on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #8a9-10054
just saw the boomtown rats on top2 doing she`s so modern great did anyone see never mind the buzzcocks last week with guy from the ruts in the line up part of the show did he look old or what good band great songs staring at the rude boy`s great talk to lot later on bye

CMoS on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #a5b-10055
I saw Dr Feelgood recent at the GBBF - appauling sound quality

donald on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #ff5-10056
Saw Jello Biafra (of Dead Kennedys) last night. That man can talk , about everything from the Gulf war to GM foods. He was talking about people being arrested in Scotland and charged with terrorist offences for attacking a field of experimental GM crops. It turned out some of the people were in the audience!Punk rock. or what.

Derek on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10057
Ever noticed that the quality of The Undertones 1st is ruined by putting Dolby on it?

Derek on 06:00 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10058
Lee I forgot to ask. Are you going to the film fest? If so do you want a lift? Anyone else on route want a lift?

Julius @ on ? GMT #20e-10060
I am very very interested in the Moondogs-videos too!

Arthur on ? GMT #079-10061
This is for Manus and Cliff: If it's ok and can be arranged I'm willing to sell t-shirts at the gig in Derry with profits going to bthe children's hospice (Cliff I've sent you an e-mail on this). On the album of Undertones covers You've Got My Number just does not compare - I think a lot of credit must go to the producer Roger Becharian because the song just bursts out at you - the sound of adolescent desparation at it's troser bursting best methinks. I used to love the line 'I'll pick you up in my car' because it was so pretend American. No one I knew had a car at that age and I'll bet none of the band really did .. seeing as they were still living at home. Jello Biafra is on at the Empire this Sunday Donald - is he worth a look?

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #029-10062
I have obtained 45 minutes of exclusive VHS video footage of the Undertones gig at Prehen playing fields.I wish to auction it to the highest bidder with the proceeds going to the N.I Childrens Cancer Unit fund.Bidding will stay open until Thurs 18/10/01.Only genuine bids please.Tape will be released to highest bidder on receipt of a bankers order made out to the NI Childrens Cancer Unit Fund.Bids can be made on web site or by E-mail to myself.

Jackie on ? GMT #3db-10063
Fancy seeing Jello Biafra talking!! The video of Holiday in Cambodia was on VH1 a few nights ago, they looked brilliant and Jello was abit of a heartthrob of mine way back then. Bands today just couldnt hope to write songs or perform like that now- too concerned about their bloody image! Not too sure I'd like to see them now though- Jello must need the money. Found out that Teenage Kicks is not touring to Newcastle Tyneside cinema- incase anyone is interested. A pity as you lot could have treked north too!

Rick on ? GMT #c16-10064
CR thanks for the Moondogs Matinee videos e-mail - will follow it up. Jello is obviously following in the once vital Henry Rollins footsteps just at the point Rollins loses the plot (he was crap for the first time when I saw him this year). Off to see the Clash exhibition at a gallery in Camden this week-end - should be good. Other tracks on Classical Punk I'd forgotten about - Alternative Ulster, Hersham Boys, Gary Gilmores Eyes, Sound of the Suburbs and Sheena is a Punk Rocker.

Lee @ on ? GMT #fb0-10065
Re Moondogs videos I'm sure I can trust you Rick ! Email me the address but give me a while - extremely busy right now and will be for a week or so. Unless CR has come up with a better option for you of course - and if he has has he got the episodes I'm missing ? Hopefully you can sort Julius out too.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10066
Sorry to say I'm not around for the film and December trip is looking very unlikely now. Depressing or what !

p2 on ? GMT #08b-10067
That classical album sounds brilliant. I am definitely going to look it out. Some Undertones news: they are namechecked twice in this month's issue of 'Total Guitar' (go on, you know you all read it)

wilke @ on ? GMT #8a9-10068
hi just booked my ticket for the dublin gig great allso order a copy of the classical album from virgin 6.99 can`t wait to hear the full album so i`ll talk to lot soon bye

Jackie on ? GMT [www.go-fly.com] #455-10069
Great offers from Go- £10 from Newcastle to London. Possibility for seeing the film, rather than suffer the train?

Derek on ? GMT #062-10071
Manus, I'll start the bidding off at £20, I know someone will offer more but it's a start. Let us know if any higher bids are made.

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #591-10072
I have a bid of £50 for the video.By the way I forgot to mention that it was filmed by a professional cameraman and is therefore top quality.I am happy if it can be arranged via Cliff that T-shirts be sold at the concert.Arthur the charity is the N.I Childrens Cancer Unit Fund not the hospice.

Cliff on ? GMT #018-10073
I'll go £25.

Cliff on ? GMT #018-10074
Stansted - Derry Thursday Oct 18th (evening flight)returning Saturday 20th (morning flight)...£70.28.I think I might just be tempted, I need a few drinks and a pogo.

Lee on ? GMT #9c9-10075
Whoever invented laptops was a fool. I've just finished my 3rd intense 12 hour + working day in a row and I've just about had it. Start working on the pc at this time of night and the chances of sleep are slim. Time for a large drink. Sorry for sharing that with you all !

George on ? GMT #ee7-10076
I have already bid for the video direct. When you eventually overtake me I will let you know. How come you only work 12 hours a day Lee. Do you finish early? I can't even have a drink to relax. I have to make do with drinking chocolate. £10 to London is worth a second look.

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #470-10077
Anyone game to come for the concert could crash down at our house or with friends.Small numbers within reason welcome.

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #470-10078
Clifgf I forgot to ask. What is the normal price for selling the T-Shirts

Cliff on ? GMT #1a1-10079
12 hour working day??!! PAH!! I've just worked a 26 hour day, had hot gravel for lunch AND I've got to be back at work half an hour ago.(what have I started now??....)

phil on ? GMT #d12-10080
Hot gravel, you were lucky to have hot gravel. I work down a mine for 28 hrs a day, pay the owner for the priviledge and sleep at night in a cardboard box in the middle of the motorway....but try telling kids that today...they won't believe you

phil on ? GMT #d12-10081
I am getting very worried about my Norwegian Blue parrot, I may have to return to the pet boutique with it to complain

phil on ? GMT #d12-10082
Indeed, what have you started Cliff?

Cliff on ? GMT #186-10083
Stop being a whimp Phil...sounds like you've got it easy.

Cliff on ? GMT #186-10084
Middle of the motorway? You jammy sod.

Cliff on ? GMT #186-10085
Cardboard box?...luxury!!

Rick on ? GMT #c16-10086
Ok thats enough - this is all getting far too silly ... and now for something completely different ...

Cliff on ? GMT #7bc-10087
Hi Rick, just the person, I'd like an argument please......

Cliff on ? GMT #7bc-10088
Blimey I think I'm going to Derry after all!! Great stuff!! Vince is going, anyone else? Sods law West Brom are playing the same night at Norwich, live on ITV2.I wonder if The Undertones would mind putting a TV on the corner of the stage....

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10090
Late start this morning - 8.15am. Fairly high levels of concentration until 11.30 - now the ends in sight. A meeting or 2 will hopefully spread a little light relief, a few more reports and that will be it. Home for the weekend for the usual 2 days of trying to stop 2 boys constantly arguing and bickering with each other. Actually, now I think about it, I'd prefer to stay at work.

Arthur on ? GMT #a02-10091
Hi Manus - whatever charity it's for is fine. All we need to do is ply Cliff with whelks and jellied eels.

Lindsay on ? GMT #b58-10093
Re. your weekend Lee - snap! Try personal stereo, undertones tape, top volume - works a treat.

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #7d3-10094
I actually know two other West Brom fans in Derry.I always thought they were an endangered species.Unfortunately we dont get ITV2 over here.I will contact you by phone regarding the T-shirts.

vinny on ? GMT #ec3-10095
Cliff: let me know what your plans are for that w/end in Derry. If you're still here on the Sat, I'll give you the guided tours this time. You may also get a preview of the film if you want?

vinny on ? GMT #ec3-10096
I'm working all that week away inc the Friday, back in Derry around 7pm.

Cliff on ? GMT #de2-10097
If I go it'll be on the Thursday evening and returning Saturday morning, so I won't get to see the film.(dagnabbit).To go on Friday and return Sunday is more than double the cost.

vinny on ? GMT #9f9-10098
Cliff: you'll just have to wait then, just like the band had to until the 22nd September!!If I get finished up early on the 19th, things may change but I doubt it as I'm out of Derry.

tom @ on ? GMT #328-10099
hello do you like tonyhawk

vinny on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9f9-10101
A wee tip when buying with Ryanair is put in requests for two return flights at different dates, each one having your REAL in and out dates, sometimes it works out cheaper than one return. Cliff try leaving Stansted on the Friday and 'returning' the following Weds or Thurs and then price one leaving Derry on the Sunday and 'returning' a week later.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #033-10102
You're a sly one Vinny,I'll 'check it out' as they say these days.I really have to work on the Saturday though and the early flight back allows me to do that.

Arthur on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #5b6-10104
Cliff - I got my ticket last week (number 565). The capacity of the Nerve Centre is 800. So you'd better rings Sounds Around in Derry and order your ticket or do you want me to.

Steve on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT [www.tvsmith.com] #a28-10105
Donald, dead jealous that you got to see Jello, a man well worth listening to. Went to see T.V Smith on thursday night, Excellent evening with Teev mixing old Adverts numbers in with new songs. A man who has stayed close to the spirit of '77 than most. As I said to him it was good to see someone growing old disgracefully. If you can catch him on tour, Go, you won't be dissapointed. The link to his site is above.

Jackie on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #455-10106
Ticket? No doubt he'll be top of the guest list!!

wilke @ on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #8a9-10107

Arthur, I've phoned you several times and left messages.I have a ticket now thanks,I called Soundsaround this morning. Can you bring the banner?

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #a72-10112
Wilke, yes t-shirts will be on sale at the gig.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #a72-10113
Apparently theres no ITV2 in NI.I'll have to get a friend at the game to text me updates.

donald on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #e46-10114
Jello is a star and nice to see someone who hasnt mellowed at all with age. He did go on a bit long though - he talked for two hours before the interval. Certainly makes you think and question things. I expect he is doing the spoken word tour to fight his latest court case. He has lost the rights to the records and is furious that corporate america is using Holiday In Cambodia to advertise Levi jeans- not a happy bunny. If you fancy a thouight provoking political Sunday I would recommend it Arthur.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #411-10115
If by 'endangered species' you mean we're special, to be cherished, marvelled at,and a thing of beauty, I think I'd have to go along with that.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #a3a-10116
Saw an advert yesterday, forget what it was for but Helen Chamberlain was in it, people were playing football and they had 'Sound of the suburbs'in the background. There definately seems to be a return to this great era of music.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #a3a-10117
I gave one of my Undertones button badges to that 'punk girl', I didn't get the kiss but a nice big smile...as much as you can hope for at 40.She gave it pride of place above all the other badges(where it belongs).

Derek on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #96e-10118
Surely 'endangered species' means nearly dead, on it's last legs etc.etc. Come to think of it meets the description of West Brom in most weeks. But who am I to talk.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #0a5-10119
...so speaks an Evertonian!

George on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #207-10120
I see a copy of Undertones Unearthed is on e-bay at the moment. Have to admit England were crap for most of the game today. Beckham had to cover for Scholes and Gerrard who were definitely both having an off day. At least Niall Quinn is now leading Irish goalscorer

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #323-10121
England were pretty crap but we do have a habit of thinking all the other top nations ALWAYS play well.Brazil aren't much kop at the moment, Holland havent even qualified, Germany will probably just about scrape through etc etc.Only France are consistent at the moment.(...and the Republic of Ireland)

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #323-10122
I wish this musical phase of background dancers would be over.Having just seen the odd bit of Kylie Minogue tonight, as if she wasn't bad enough she surrounds herself with these silly background dancers, what is the point of all that?So many 'artists' do it these days it just looks embarrassing.

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #822-10123
Then again I wonder if The Undertones have considered having sexy background dancers? Maybe we could do it, imagine some of us in black leather trousers doing our thing to 'Teenage Kicks' or 'Jimmy Jimmy'? (George, Arthur, Derek, Donald, CR, Wilke and myself...now calm down girls!)

Lindsay on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9a4-10124
Wouldn't you all be a little stiff at your age?

Lindsay on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9a4-10125
Anyway, don't the dancers always end up getting off with the band members? (eg. Scary/J.Lo). Mmmm, maybe I'll just post my c.v. to Damian...

tom on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #d12-10126
I hear that the Dublin gig has been cancelled - it was on the Irish Ceefax service tonight - page 435. The story said that the dublin gig was cancelled and no more gigs were planned - any one else heard this?

Cliff on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #80c-10127

George, I couldn't see the Undertones 'unearthed' album on ebay but they do have 2 button badges, one of which isn't in your collection. Its a two tone effect without the word 'The'.

Like Steve, I went to see TV smith a few years ago, he did an 'unplugged' set with a mix of adverts stuff, modern stuff and also stuff from his 'TV21' days. Really worth a look. Steve Diggle was at the gig too, my mate and I ended up in the bar with him where he regaled us with tales of being on tour with the sex pistols in america. If only I could remember the details it would make a better story. Anyway TV smith is well worth a look.

donald on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #271-10130
Re Kylies show last night - I rather enjoyed seeing 'the odd bit of Kylie' as little Cliff put it.

Arthur on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #86b-10132
I don't know about Jello Biafra - I'm decorating the spare room - if I want to hear someone ranting for hours I just need to call in Good Vibes and go for a pint with Hooley. As for background dancers - Cliff in a tutu - now there's a thought. I'll give you a call mate.

Lindsay on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #814-10133
Donald how did we know you'd be watching Kylie! I have to confess I was dancing along but my vocals aren't quite up to her standard (the kids even demanded to go to bed at one point!).

Lindsay on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #814-10134
Next time don't drink so much P2! I don't recall TV Smith being in TV21 but my memory isn't what it was. Bought a Buzzcocks singles compilation today. Great to hear Noise Annoys again - the song had a big influence on me at the time and probably got me listening to more interesting stuff (like some band called...erm, can't quite remember the name...great songs though!)

Steve on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10135
Your right Lindsay, Teev was never in TV21, His band in the 80,s was called TV Smith's Cheap. They had an excellent single called Tomahawk Cruise. Lindsay Teev is playing in leeds on Wed 24th at a place called The New Roscoe? I think..Go check him out.

Steve on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10136
I am losing it big style....Teev's early 80's band was the Explorers (Who did Tomahawk Cruise.)...Followed by Channel Five and then Cheap..... Lindsay is the singles collection you got Singles Going Steady? A finer example of Power Pop you will not find.

Derek on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10137
Does anyone remember the Birmingham gig (can't think which tour but it was late on possibly last tour before split)which I think was filmed. The tones did have the brass section and if my memory serves me right, I think there were 2 girl backing vocalists for a couple of songs. Am I just dreaming this or can someone else remember?

Derek on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #590-10138
Has someone else checked out the Dublin rumour?

Jackie on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #455-10139
Will someone volunteer to phone the Olympia? I remember that single tomahawk cruise, never knew who sung it- I do now

Derek on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #12c-10141
Who's got the number and I'll do it. Then if it's on i can book my ticket as well.

donald on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #ec8-10142
Suspect the Tom dublin cancellations are another false rumour. The earlier comment yesterday(10099)from Tom 'hello do you like tonyhawks' was from my 10 year old - who's hobbies are winding me up and skateboards but he didnt do the one about Dublin- it not his style (and its correctly spelt!). Suspect someone took the name to wind us up again.

Lee on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10147
TV21 - another band that deserved far better. Any fans out there - I've got a few cassettes worth a listen - Radio sessions and an In Concert I think and a rare demo. They supported The Moondogs.

Good joke Rick, have you been on the beer at lunchtime? Perhaps you can help out poor Lee, he seems to have lost his sense of humour. The Singles Going Steady compilation I got is the 2001 version with the 8 bonus tracks (24 altogether) - not bad for 7.99.

Yesterday I decided to look at the security video to see if things were as they should be when we're not there.I had left that day at 9:30pm(ish) so started watching just after.A member of staff is behind the counter and then to my horror a member of the public walks casually behind the counter and goes straight to the till!! The member of staff just stands there so my immediate reaction is that they know each other and this has happened before. The suspect is slightly overweight with a big bald patch, and then I realise the awful truth........IT'S ME!!! AARRRGGGHHHHHHH!! These security cameras can be so unforgiving! Anybody know where you can buy 4' diameter toupees?

George on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #9ba-10157
Cliff try Paul Daniels, Terry Wogan, Elton John. I'm sure they know where to buy toupee's. But just think how much you will save in the future when you no longer need to go the barber (hairdresser for those of you down South!).

Lindsay on 06:01 30th-Oct-01 GMT #42c-10158
4 foot diameter toupee?!! I think you need to see a doctor not a hairdresser Cliff.

Cliff: the theory is that people put on 12lbs when on camera, if you look any more than this on your security camera then just keep adding on to the 12lbs theory!! Also, you must have one of those dodgy CCTV cameras that never really catch anyone but are just a deterrent? If you can't even recognise yourself, how are the Police gonna find an intruder!!Don't give your address on this site!Check out an English company called KEENE ELECTRONICS for pinsharp CCTV cameras, no I'm not on commission!I've seen enough cameras without having to get into CCTV.

Just heard about the FriendsReunited.co.uk site which has loads of contacts from schools etc. At first I thought what an awful idea going back in time 20 odd years and rediscovering friends that if I wanted to keep in touch with I would have but then I remembered all the Undertones fans from school who I haven't heard from for so long. Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10179
From what I am told this Friends Reunited site is taking off by word of mouth. My brother in law told me about it and he said in September alone it had gone from something like 20 contact names at the start of September from his old school to over 100 at the end of September. I got a mention by someone and my wife was mentioned by someone at her primary school who she hasn't spoken to for almost 30 years. She has already received an email from him. There are some funny sections where you can put comments about teachers etc but it probably needs a bit of thought for the person you could be slagging off - not that any of us would do that about anyone !

Yep, interesting stuff.'This is a nicely made film, with input from a wide range of sources, though you cannot help wishing that Sharkey would be more forthcoming with his view on the band split. That old chestnut 'musical differences' is wearing ever so slightly thin'.Does it simply mean that Feargal wanted success at any cost whereas the others stuck to their beliefs, or am I being hopelessly naieve?. Latest news reports advise that a cell of 4 terrorists has been operating in Possil, Glasgow. Police advised earlier today that 4 of the 5 have been detained. The Strathclyde Regional Police Commissioner stated that the terrorists Bin Sleepin, Bin Drinkin, No Bin Washin and Bin Fightin have been arrested on immigration issues. The Police advise further that they can find no one fitting the description of the fifth cell member, Bin Workin, in the area. Police are confident that anyone who looks like Workin will be very easy to spot in the community.

As for man City, a little while back they hammered Sheff Wed away. Someone in work asked about their progress and I said they were liable to get stuffed in the next match. Sure enough 0-4 at home to Wimbledon. I spoke to the same person again and stated that it wouldn't surprise me if they hammered someone by 6. I swear this is true. It's not based on any science - just expect the unexpected. Wilke - I wouldn't worry too much anout that tribute CD. It's probably good judgement that The Strokes are on the same label as the Undertones. Some labels have pedigree ie Atlantic and dare I say it Sire records where you know that the materiel is going to be quality. As for the Strokes they're good but in a Worthington Cup way compared to the Tones Champions League materiel. George on 06:02 30th-Oct-01 GMT #8af-10222
Well this is my first day off work sick in the last 14 years, caused by pressure at work giving me headaches. In my absence apparently they have had a staff meeting this morning at which redundancies were discussed. If I have recovered sufficiently to go to work on Monday I imagine I will find out my fate then. If I still have a job on the Tuesday I will 'celebrate' 23 years at the same company. I am being held responsible for the cutbacks because I didn't tell my boss quick enough or loud enough that his spending plans did not match our income. The fact that every member of the management team have failed to meet their income targets seems to be irrelevant.

Lee on 06:02 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10223
Hope the next week or so goes well George. At our company we seem to have been in a never ending cycle of redundancies and staff changes. I've survived so far. My promotion earlier this year now puts me in a position with 32 people reporting to me via other managers and hopefully in a position where you can do some good and feel you have an active part in making sure we don't have to make what must be awful decisions when it comes to the point when redundancies are inevitable.

Anonymous just in case anyone else at my Co sees this on 06:02 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10224
As well as preparing my own budget I also have to put together the overall budget for next year. In my first year doing this I went in with grand ideas of spending more to make bigger savings and everything stacked up and made sense but I was expecting to be told - no make the savings but cut the costs. What happened - my own budget was the only 1 where the costs were INCREASED by our Director (I hope no-one else at work sees this !). I continually fail to see the logic either when you point out you could employ people full time at a lower cost than keeping temps which are here permanently but being told that while the cost base may be higher the heads are lower so lets stick with the temps. It's a strange world. Back to the music.

Just went to FriendsReunited and read that all the thugs and bullies who made my life hell at school are the only ones posting anything. These people are the type Lee mentioned that you wouldn't want to meet again in a thousand years anyway. In fact the sort you wouldn't p*ss on if they were on fire. The only consolation is that they seem to have done very little with their lives. Typical posting seems to be 'Still live on Teesside, been married for 14 years, 2 kids, see some old school mates when go out drinking every Friday.' Ho hum.

White Stripes well on first listen - Shite Stripes would be morte appropriate. It sounds to me like a load of ill conceived ideas that would have been a third rate demo at best. Must admit, I'm really getting into the Strokes but my star recommendation is an album by a band called INTER - it really is worth checking out.

comment for anonymous: your boss has this typical manager-virus which is called 'the shareholders shall be pleased', which is a virus that causes very short-term policies:only interest what the shareholders will say next month and not interested in next year's results, this type of managers is only interested in today's targets and -to my opinion- are very bad for the long term running of a company. Sadly the world is full of these kind of managers. But back to music: Arthur, thanks for the tip on Inter wil check them out. The Strokes is a great album and I am not too impressed by the White Stripes either. Als been enjoying a swedish band called Ceasar's Palace recently

I too have work woes. Just found out today my job share partner is going to be off for up to four months with depression. That's the third person I know this year who's succumbed to this modern-day disease. I used to work for an insurance co. paying claims based on inability to work and traditionally the majority of claims were from manual workers falling off ladders etc. Nowadays the highest number of claims generated are for mental and stress disorders suffered by workers in white collar occupations. The adverts that really get on my wick at the moment are the ones from 'Insurance Claims Companies'- 'no win no fees', but if you do win the lawyers take most of it and the rest of the insurance holders pay higher premiums cos of claim so some pillock who cant climb a ladder because there wasnt the correct Health & Safety instruction on it. Its the nanny state gone mad. I got pissed and fell over, who can I sue. Hope work improves anonymous (not very). I'll look out for the Strokes and Inter. Should have stuck to the white lines Arthur!Good luck for Cork Vinny, good to see the film and bad get so much publicity.

I agree Jackie, it does look a bit posh. Hope they let me in!! Tell David not to worry, we can always 'create' a bar. As for Cork, no doubt Vinny will be able to give us the lowdown on the local hostelries on his return.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10260
This will be a long one so I will have to split it. Sorry for boring you with this but it seems relevant given the postings about claims. Why do so many coincidences happen on this site ? Found out at the weekend that my dad will get nothing for an injury he got at work 5 years ago and then I get here to find postings about the same sort of thing. My dad must have been 57'ish and had never had any hint of Arthritis. He was the 6th person at work to slip on some petrol after they decided one of the cutbacks they could make was to eliminate the person who filled up the lorries. Everyone could fill up themselves they thought. So this happens but not everyone has the time to clean up after themselves. So my dad slips and his knee goes and he can't walk properly.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10261
Goes to many doctors visits all of who say he isn't fit to work, tries surgery which may improve it. 6 months later it is obvious it is never going to get better. As his job involves lifting he sees the doctor again. Opinion - he cannot do the same job and never will be able to - oh and by the way there is a hint of Arthritic problems starting. From this it's decided best thing is to go for Ill Health Early Retirement. That happens - start a claim which for 4-5 years has suggested would be straightforward and my dad would get loss of earnings, extra for the pain he has had to suffer, extra for the amounts he has had to pay people for jobs he can't do any more etc etc. I know everyone would say this but my dad is not the type to sit around. He would much sooner have been at work than been at home for the last 5 years.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10262
Over the weekend in comes a letter - final offer with no loss of earnings and in fact with a lower value than he has incurred in costs. Reason - a very early doctors diagnosis apparently signed 5 years ago that no-one had seen before until now, that says he should be fit for work in 4-6 weeks. But this was before all the doctors visits and further diagnosis. Because the arthritis problems have set in - which no-one has said were not caused by the fall - he has been advised to accept on the basis that the real reason that will be argued that he had to give up work was arthritis which appeared just at the same time that his work related injury had healed. Talk about unfair !

Cliff on ? GMT #6c0-10263
Shouldn't your Dads solicitor have been aware of that early Doctors report? Even so, Doctors can make mistakes and this one obviously did.Surely you can take the matter further.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10265
I think he should have been made aware of it but when it appeared I don't know. I hope there is somehow that it can be taken further but the solicitor didn't sound hopeful. We shall see.

donald on ? GMT #21e-10266
Lee, sounds a complex case and you're poor dad is stuck in the middle. Is it a claim against the employer for negligence or is it a claim on your dads Income Protection cover? You would have to prove that your dad did not have pre-existing arthritis in the affected joint before the fall which would be difficult. I supose you just have to be guided by your lawyer. Good luck

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10267
Your dad has a genuine case Lee but there are so many out there ready to milk the system- we had a shifty bloke in the cloakrrom at school one lunchtime and when I tackled him he said he was taking photos of a radiator cos his daughter had fallen and damaged her nose some years previously-proceeds to sue the school! I hope your dad gets justice though Lee it must have been such a stressful time for him.

A report about Cork and a recce of The Savoy will follow, I'm shattered, overwhelmed again but shattered!!

Lindsay on ? GMT #f4e-10270
Since when did you become an insurance expert Donald! You are right though about the pre-existing condition clause relating to Income Protection cover but generally the condition has to be known about or is already being treated for when the policy is taken out. Depends on the policy wording as they're all slightly different and some companies are more likely to payout than others. We even had an electric chair type contraption to test people's abilities on! Suggest you try taking the matter up with the Insurance Ombudsman if you haven't already.

Lindsay on ? GMT #f4e-10271

VINNY on ? GMT #d12-10277
Not really a report but a recollection!!I arrived in Cork around 2.30pm, checked into the hotel and went to The Kino Cinema around 3.00pm to see what it looked like. It was lovely, one of those old arthouse cinemas that held around 220-230 people. The receptionist said 'can I help you?' and I pretended that I was looking for tickets for the film that night and she said 'sorry we sold out about half an hour ago'. I couldn't pretend any longer and I said 'that's great as I am the Producer'!!!!!!!!Next part coming up.......

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10278
I have to do this as we have to do it in parts?Later I met up with Damian at the guest registration place, got our free teeshirts and passes.Damian and I then went to The Savoy where coincidentally there was an Irish Film Board reception for new Irish films inc TEENAGE KICKS. The Savoy is entered thru a Shopping Centre Mall in the centre of Cork and is a really nice venue. The Recption we had was actually on the balcony overlooking the stage etc. It was like a very large version of the Mean Fiddler and a smaller version of The Astoria. It'll be agreat gig there in December. Later we met up with Paul, had a meal with the Cork Film Festival Crew and then went to the Screening at 9.00pm

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10279
The place was packed, during the film they had to turn people away. Before the showing, the Festival introduced Tom Collins(Director), myself, Damian and Paul to the crowd, to great applause!!Embarassing. The film was shown and it got an amazing round of applause at the end. We then had to do what's called a Q+A session, Questions from the audience and hopefully answers from us!!It went really well. Oh, I forgot to mention one of the famous Irish Undertones' fans, RODDY DOYLE the writer was there, in fact he'd stayed on in Cork an extra night just to see it!! We'd met him at The Savoy earlier and he was delighted to be introduced to Damian and Damian was delighted to be introduced to him!!

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10280
He really was a down to earth fella and a real Undertones fan. Anyway, afterwards we all headed to the Cork Opera House where the Cork Film team all meet up for a drink and a live band, who didn't come on until near 1.15am!!Cover versions etc, very good. After a few drinks, Damian and Paul were encouraged by the Festival Director, Mick Hannigan, a big fan, to come up and do TEENAGE KICKS!The place went wild, for the three minutes anyway of TK!!

vinny on ? GMT #d12-10281
The band then went off as they couldn't follow that could they? After this the Cork Film Festival took us to a secret location for bottles and bottles of champagne declaring that it was the highlight of the festival.PS I don't like champagne, give me a good pint anyday, one glass is fine but after that your stomach starts to say 'give me me pint Vinny!'Well that's it, I'll

Julius on ? GMT #448-10283
Lee, it is a sad story. I don't think I can be much of an advice as the Dutch Insurance system probably works different but my experience is that insurance companies always say no at first and when you take the matter further, they reconsider and might give a positive reaction. Insurance companies just do not like to pay out as that are their costs, I know a guy who worked at an insurance company and his sole task was to look for ways to say no to claims; if customers took the matter further, well it was time for a further and proper investigation. It will cost time and trouble but take it further Lee! Great news about Cork, Vinny. As a journalist I have watched the film too and will write a review very soon; it is very good indeed: it is a honest picture of a great band who did not know they were good and it has been made very well. I'll send a copy of the review to CMoS. By the way: I read most Roddy Doyle books

Cliff on ? GMT #6a7-10291
Yes they did, and 'Rock'n'Roll' by Gary Glitter.'Time is tight' was a favourite of mine.

Arthur on ? GMT #0f4-10292
So Roddy Doyle is a fan and Frank McGuinness the playright, world renowned literary figures. Do you think that maybe just maybe, the band will start to believe that they were and are fantastic or is that too much to hope? Congratulations Vinny for making the film and bringing their story to people again. Fantastic.

Arthur on ? GMT #0f4-10293
If memory serves me right, is it not insurance company policy to string out claims and then to make an offer pitched lower than you might expect. If you decide to pursue the claim - you take the gamble of facing legal costs should your final settlement be less or equivilent to the Insurance companies latest offer. That said, surely your lawyer would have looked for signs of arthritis in other parts of your father's body not affected by his accident. If there were none - it would seem to be too much of a coincidence. I'm not sure if your father was in a Union and it was their lawyer he was using. If he was not - I would suggest a second opinion. The difficulty you face is in finding a competent lawyer and I would contact a Trade Union such as the GMB and ask their legal department who they use.

Lee on ? GMT #fb0-10295
Well done Vinny - sounds like it is going deservedly well. So when does Teenage Kicks - The Undertones 2 go into production ?

Any other fans of The Proclaimers after Donalds posting ? I bought their recent album and I think it's excellent. Very upbeat at times but after you get past the songs about drinking and getting drunk their lyrics have always seemed very real and soulful in a way. There are a number of songs on this latest one dealing with their thoughts after their father died. Very moving.

Vinny's message sent me into a panic so I tried calling The Savoy Theatre only to get one of those infuriating press 1 for this, press 2 for that messages. I tried pressing everything but it kept cutting me off so after three attempts I gave up and emailed (with sob story of sad Undertones website members coming all the way over from England etc, etc). Reply says tickets on sale mid November and to email back around then. Glad to hear the w/e went well Vinny and you were very well looked after (although I agree with you about the Champagne - too dry for me - more of a Babycham girl myself!)

Found out today that it is definitely me or my assistant who will be made redundant. They will save more money by getting rid of me, though the list of who can do what suggests it should be my assistant who is chosen. We asked if we could possibly arrange some form of job share costing me about a third of my gross pay if we were both kept on. If I am chosen my statutory entitlement will be about £9000. There may be an enhancement, but even though we are going through a redundancy process the management haven't had the sense to confirm what any enhancement would be. Lions led by donkeys does spring to mind!

Oh dear - another ambitious one I'm going to have to split - sorry about this. Seeing George's news just reminded me of how badly an instance at work a few years ago was handled. A good friend of mine worked for the company for 6 or 7 years. He had a very young family - in fact when he had to leave they had a 4 month old baby. We got took over by an American Company in May. They had grand ideas of centralising our European operation which sounded good for us but not for our European equivalents.

Lee on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10329
Part 2 - My friend was in a very specialised area earning 30k'ish and did most of his own work without consultants and kept offering to train himself up with a few courses, probably costing 10k max. on European rules in his area. Kept getting told - no can't spend that amount of money on training. 6 months go by still no change. Just a week or so before Christmas he gets called in - big American boss says we don't think you can handle the european side of things. In fact, 6 months ago we recruited a european expert from our auditors but we've just been waiting for her to have a baby until we can release you. She will be ready for work January 1st so you can go now - we will pay your 1 months notice of course. I since found out she earns not far off double his salary and the consultancy budget is now in excess of 500k.

I know its terrible losing a job but unemployment figures fell again this month to their lowest levels since 1975. I'm sure our friends on this site will get new jobs soon. We all remember the early '80s and a record 3 or 4 million unemployed under Thatch. The job markets at least as not as bad as that anymore. Nowadays its just that there is no job security. As a boss recently said to me 'you need to take a 'portfolio' approach to your working life rather than expecting long term positions'. Sad but true.

Good luck to you both in your job hunt. No consolation I know but my sister who lives near Leeds was recently made redundant and found a new job in less than 4 weeks.

Anyone who didn't remember to watch/tape TOTP2 last night missed one of the better shows - The Jam , The Clash, The Ruts. Also the Brotherhood of Man, Three Degrees etc for those with wider musical tastes. Thanks Rick and Lee for your thoughts.

Lee on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #fb0-10334
The Clash were on TOTP2 - wonder if they object to that as much as they objected to being on TOTP when they were with us. Currently playing a lot of the recent Joe Strummer album which I like. If in the late '70's you had told me one day I would quite enjoy a 17 minute instrumental by Joe and his band I think I would have said you were mad.

Just talked to Manus Martin and the Undertones tickets are going like hotcakes. It looks as though the concert will sell out by tomorrow night. Lets hope so as it would be great for the charity.

Lindsay on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #213-10336
Vince, I've just remembered you from the Tottenham (you'd had a few drinks by then and so had I!) - have a good one. Are you and Cliff staying at the B&B? Say hello to Margaret from me. PS. Thanks for all the messages everyone.

Lindsay on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #213-10337
I'm sure everyone is in for a good night tomorrow and I hope lots of money is raised for your cause Manus. Just wish more of us could get over to join in the fun.

donald on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #e46-10338
Hope things work out George and Alistair, I'm sure they will. Joe Strummer's touring soon and I would recommend it, if he's anywhere near you Lee. Got tickets for Ash in December, Proclaimers sold out unfortunately and Soft Cell on Sunday.'Stnading in the dooor of the pink flamingo crying in the rain'. Hope tomorrow goes well Manus. I've lost 3 friends to leukaemia so I hope you raise bucketloads of cash.

VINNY on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #e2d-10340
George, I really am sorry to hear your bad news. As the eternal optimist, all I can say, something better will happen, that's fate etc etc but that's not much use to you now having only got the news, but it will. You're a good fella and something good will come out of this, I promise.

VINNY on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #e2d-10341
And Alaistar, I've only just read as I have been away all week. THE BBC HERE HAVE NOW GIVEN THE TX DATE AS WEDS 7 NOVEMBER AT 10.30pm, as far as I'm aware it's regional TX only. It's going to press this week so you're the first to know!!

Lee on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #071-10342
Strummer's on in Birmingham I think - 20th November. Any others from the Midlands going ?

George on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #573-10344
I assume TX means transmission Vinny. By regional is that Northern Ireland only. Don't forget to set your video on 7th November Arthur cos' we will be relying on you for copies.

Lindsay on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #1e7-10345
Are you running the New York Marathon by any chance George? Hope the trip comes off and you have a good time - you deserve it after this week. I'm sure you will add a few gems to your record collection whilst you're there - my mum got fed up with me disappearing every time we passed a record shop.

Manus Martin @ on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #de0-10346
Looking forward to tomorrow night.Arthur if you get a chance to read this before you go there is going to be a piece on the BBC Northern Ireland news about the concert.you can come and watch the video around 6.30 if that suits.

Arthur on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #29f-10347
Hi y'all. Manus, I was aiming to be in Derry around 4 pm or slightly earlier to meet up with Cliff. I'll give him a call later as I'm sure you will have met him by now. Well George - it's not been good news for you this week so I hope something turns up for you. I'm sure it will. We had our first Anthrax scare at work this week coincidentally just in time for everyone to get to see the footy. Wasn't so funny for those involved in it though - they were hosed down. More later.

wilke @ on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #8a9-10350

Talking to Cliff and Arthur on the phone earlier, they were watching the film at the B+B. I'm sure they'll tell ye's about it later. Must go now, there's a band palying in Derry tonight and I've heard so much about them

TEST

Derek on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #12c-10357
Tickets at the NFT have sold out according to the Film Festival Organisers and there are only 32 tickets left for the Ritzy (Brixton). So if you haven't got your ticket yet get booking and quick. I was hoping to go to both so if anyone's got a spare for Fridays showing please let me know. Sorry about the TEST, I am still having problems with my P.C. which doesn't always let me see the most up to date pages.

Jackie on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #455-10358
Only 32 tickets left?? Oh my God. I hope my friend in London managed to get some today or my shopping trip is going to be longer than I thought. Thinking about the boy(s) in Derry tonight. On the job front, I have a job interview on Monday over 350 applicants narrowed to a short list of 42. Theres a lot of competition out there.

Julius on 06:03 30th-Oct-01 GMT #5b5-10359
really sorry to learn about your job-loss George and Alastair, if there is anything I can do. Life sometimes can be very unfair. Just hope that the good times will return soon. Just have to come to grip with the fact that Dublin will be doubtful for me too, there is only a slight chance that I might go. If not, I am sure I will be there at one of the concerts in 2002.

Julius on ? GMT #5b5-10360
Jackie you are sitting behind the computer at the same time as me, a time when he HAD to squeeze ourselves to the front of a stage somewhere.......

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10361
Vinny could you not have nabbed a load of tickets (say 30) and sold them to the genuine Tones fans (like us!) and put 'reserved' notices on the front row-just a thought.

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10362
Hello Julius nice to meet you! On your marks, get set..sorry I'm already there!!

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10363
So Julius does this mean our competition for first to the front in Dublin is off?

Rick on ? GMT #d8f-10364
Just received a video of three 'Moondogs Matinee' TV shows - truly amazing even though the production values are very early '80s. Songs and 'live' performances are great and Gerry is a true star (how many outfits and shades did he have?). Julius - I have to spend Tuesday and Wednesday night in Utrecht next week - any chance of us meeting up ?

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10365
I have just returned from the Nerve Centre so don't expext any coherent words for a while, amazing is all I can say (x1,000,000) I've just read about the LFF showing and first of all I have to say I don't really get tkt allocation like a gig so sorry about this. When your film is entered that's it, it's the festival's then. But I will see what I can do if anyone lets me know.... I'll talk later...Wilke I'm sorry I couldn't make it to The Gweedore after, ask Cliff and Arthur Why??

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10366
I have just searched the LFF website myself and I am trying to find out the capacity of NFT2 and The Ritzy. Derek, were you talking to the main box office? I really wuill try my best to get tkts for anyone who wants to go...The Undertones did some SPECIAL material tonight but I will leave it to CLIFF and Arthur to report on this? Hope you both had a safe journey home, it's only a pity I wasn't around yesterday and today to give Cliff the real tour of Derry!!Well done with the teeshirts and well done THE UNDERTONES!!!!!!

Manus Martin @ on ? GMT #6f3-10367
Just home from the gig.I will leave the full report to Arthur and Cliff. All I can say it doesnt get any better than what we had tonight. The Undertones are great anywhere but gigs in Derry are just sdpecial. We havent tallied up all the money yet but we reckon it is just over £6000.I will drop into the site now and again and keep in touch.

Seán on ? GMT #d12-10368
Just back from the after party doo! Great night ...I cant believe how many were at the Nerve centre! I met Cliff tonight..It took him four songs before he started pogoing..is this normal? I read this forum all the time bur rarely post messages. Why was Vinny filming tonight..I thought the documentary was finished or is their more?

Sean on ? GMT #d12-10369
Brilliant tonight......Good meeting you Cliff!

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10371
I'm just about to phone for tickets- I'll let you know how I get on.Glad the gig went well.

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10372
Got two tickets booked straight away, no problems for Sunday screening. When I asked if there were many tickets left he said oh yes, you're seats B19 and 20- I'm obviously going to get a good view! Come on the rest of you get booked up! And I think the person you spoke to was having you on Derek.

Lindsay on ? GMT #dcb-10373
Jackie - I've just booked too. He said 'there were still tickets available for that one' thus giving the impression that there weren't many but he didn't say what row. Cinemas usually fill up from the back don't they as the view from the front usually results in a stiff neck for the rest of the week but I will gladly suffer a week in pain to see this one!

Lindsay on ? GMT #dcb-10374
Can't wait to hear all about the gig and Donald's lobster joke. I'm still waiting to hear if I've got tickets to see Ash as you had to apply via post. If I do get some I'm going to feel v.old - haven't been to a gig at Leeds Uni since The Ramones!!

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10375
Lindsay I'm dithering about whether to see Starsailor at Newcastle uni- I havent been there since seeing Orange Juice. To make matters worse my friends 15 year old daughter is going and my friend wants me to watch out for her..AArgghh!

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10376
My London friend has just confirmed shes also got me a ticket- so I've now got two spares for Sunday screening if anyone is stuck

George on ? GMT #f54-10377
I'll have a ticket please Jackie. It'll give me an incentive to book my rail ticket. Went to see a local punk tribute band last night called 1977. Before the concert I asked if they could play teenage kicks. Lo and behold an hour later there I was jumping around at the front having had the song dedicated to me. The song was included in a preprinted set list so they might have played it anyway. Still a good night out but not as good as Cliff, Arthur and Vinny. I did tell the local band that the Undertones were playing that night in Derry and how lucky they were to have me watching them instead. Just have to wait for Cliff and Arthur's reports now.

VINNY on ? GMT #d12-10378
Sean: I was filming last night for Manus Martin, just a kinda record of the night. I only filmed about 6 songs and then put the camera away and became a fan!! It was great!!Also, you never know where this material will be useful?DVD, Video version of the film....Sean who??

wilke @ on ? GMT #8a9-10379
have just got up afterthe best undertones gig that i been to this year thanks to vinny cliff arthur and a big thank you to the wife for letting me get right in the thick of the pogoing the songs were great the boys were out of this world looking foward to the xmas gigs cliff the new tee shirs are great aruthur good to meet you vinny i think we now know we can pogo with the best of them

Lindsay on ? GMT #993-10380
If the two songs I've heard by Starsailor are indicative of the rest of their stuff, I wouldn't dither or bother Jackie - unless you want come away very depressed (completely the opposite to how you'll feel after seeing The Undertones again - as the messages below will tell you!).

Vinny on ? GMT #d12-10381
I have just rang the LFF Box Office and they daid the Friday screening is sold out with limited numbers left for the Sunday

Jackie on ? GMT #455-10382
Ok Lindsay-I'll not bother! Ok George you can have one of my spare tickets, if you buy me a coffee on the train. The gig sounded excellent as ever.

Arthur on ? GMT #05f-10383
Hi just a few comments, I'll file a full report later. What an experience. Vinny's film is brilliant - it's such a great story, 5 kids from Derry who started a band and made it. It'll appeal to a wide audience, not just fans who know the band. Fantastic. Up a rickety 20 foot ladder trying to put Cliff's banner up and eventually taking it down. Meeting Manus Martin - sir you are an absolute gent and if there is anything I can do or if you are organising anything just get in touch. I met Vinny O'Neill (the Pete Best of the Undertones' story).

Arthur on ? GMT #05f-10384
The gig itself was sweaty, unbelievably exhilerating and a reminder that I'm well unfit. Vinny, you chancer - what happened - you're not even carrying a beer gut and you sat out large parts of it. Wilke - it was a pleasure meeting you. Sorry we didn't get to go for that drink but you'd gone by the time we eventually left. The band did 3 completely new songs penned by the great John (Rock God) O'Neill and they had class written all over them. My personal favourite on first listen was the second tune they did.... ' Waiting for a Girl Like You' More hooks than a 10 year old trout but Vinny preferred the first new tune and Cliff the last one. More later.

Seán on ? GMT #d12-10385
Vinny I'm someone you know from the early 80's.We ran about with a set of brothers from William st.Seán Mc C...does it help?

wilke @ on ? GMT #8a9-10386
just another line about last night the new songs are just as good as the old ones all so hello to the guy i met in the pub thanks for the drink deborah sorry for nearley pulling you arm off as i drag you out to the dance and once more a big thank you cliff vinny deborah arthur for a great nights crack see ya

George on ? GMT #092-10388
Reading the postings today I wish I was in Derry last night? At least 3 new songs to look forward to in Dublin/Cork.

Cliff on ? GMT #0c8-10391
Sean, you got that wrong....I pogoed to the opener 'Jimmy Jimmy' and it took me several songs to recover.Thats normal(sadly!).

Cliff on ? GMT #0c8-10392
I got back to Stansted this morning at 11am and at work by 1PM, I found it so difficult to concentrate on customers orders coz my mind was still in Derry. The gig was just the best, absolutely fantastic, The Undertones at their brilliant(exhilarating, spine tingling) best. The sound was perfect, every song sounded spot on without exception.

Cliff on ? GMT #51b-10394
The Undertones getting back together was a dream come true for me.I never thought for one moment they would. This last year and a half has been great, but NEW songs was a different matter altogether. Now that HAD to be to much to ask for and then there was the question of whether they could possibly be as good as the original stuff, and if not, surely that would tarnish their reputation.Fortunately they are level headed enough to realise all of that and as John O'Neill has previously stated he would have to be extremely confident of any new stuff (that he'd written)to play it in front of an audience.Well, he obviously was and last night we were treated to 3 brand new Undertones songs, all of which sounded right up there with previous stuff.(New Undertones songs....who'd have ever thought it?!!).

Cliff on ? GMT #51b-10395
The first didnt get any introduction at all, 'SHUT DOWN' was fast and powerful, yet melodic(sound familiar?).The 2nd was introduced as 'A Troggs cover version'....'WITH A GIRL LIKE YOU'.I found myself after 30 seconds thinking 'This is a bloody good song but why do they keep playing covers?!!'And the 3rd 'RIDE ROUGH ESCALATOR'(I think) was just plain class(sound familar?)This, by the way, was introduced as 'An old B-side we found'.Of course I want to hear them all again ASAP just to make absolutely sure I love them as much as I did last night.Apparently there are more on the way.........

Cliff on ? GMT #51b-10396
The film is per
