It was great to see everyone at the film on Sunday. I thought it gave a really good perspective on the environment that the Undertones came out of...I particularly liked the comment that the Undertones 'sweet sound' was an act of teenage rebellion against the Guns and Hatred that was the accepted way of life for people in Derrry in the 70's. Anyway I'm going to see it again, with less Beer inside me, on Thursday - if anyone else is going, we could meet up in the NFT bar beforehand. (Wear a lobster to identify yourselves)

....and I'm going to the Limerick gig. I was heading vaguely that way anyway - return train ticket is £30.00 from Dublin. takes just under 3 hours.

Jackie, I've got loads of stories to bore you with when we next meet up. Some of them might overlap with Georges but I can give a better perspective. Have I told you all about The FERRRGAAALLL Interview at Torhout?

Derek on 19:57 21st-Nov-01 GMT #e53-11082
Imeant to say different perspective. Sorry George.

Excellent Joe Strummer Gig last night in Birmingham, Arrived about 8.20 ish only to find out that John Cooper Clark was supporting and was already on. Caught the last two numbers, a still moving beesley street. Strummer on top form, mixing old and new, tending to stick to the cover versions that the Clash did, Armegeddion Time was tingling stuff.

Met up with lee at the end and had a quick chat, good to finally meet in person, hopefully meeet up again soon. Donald, I posted a couple of pages back, that how come by not playing in Mainland Britain they are not ruining their reputation, Obviouslly it does'nt matter in Ireland! Why bother with new songs as well if you don't want them heard? Makes no sense at all, or is it that it is really difficult for the guy's to get leave from their jobs? Perhaps that has more to do with it.

I was at the Strand Cinema and subsequently at Badgers for a few beers. It was a great night - I thought the film was stunning and it was a real treat to have a few words with John O'Neill in Badgers afterwords.

Cliff on 23:58 21st-Nov-01 GMT #bd2-11087
Steve, nobody really seems to know exactly what the future holds. As you say, why write new songs? my personal opinion is that they will play England and Scotland again one day, but when that might be is anybodys guess.Obviously their jobs are a very important factor.

Interesting how similar the O'Neills house is in the film to the Acorn B&B where we stay. The back room and kitchen are virtually identical.Next time we go to Derry we MUST reconstruct the 'perfect Cousin' video in the Acorn B&B garden!!

Cliff on 00:02 22nd-Nov-01 GMT #bd2-11089
I just get sadder and sadder ;-)).

My purely personal view is that Cork is a dump. When we used to go to Cork for Derry City games we stayed in a village called Cobh 10 miles away off whose shore the Lusitania sank.I think the Titanic stopped off there on its maiden journey. It has great pubs and a good hotel called the Commodore.I asked the manager there when did the bar shut and he replied 'Whatever time you collapse at a couple of my staff will take you to your room.'
