Musings
I dont know what is was about the Beatles but they have never really done it for me. My Gran used to love telling the story about the first time my grandfather saw them on the TV and said they would come to anything with haircuts like that. Maybe its hereditary? Not long to Dublin/Cork. Whats this about Henry not being able to drive? donald on 17:15 1st-Dec-01 GMT #66d-11280 read 'never come to anything'. Is stupidity hereditary or aquired? Derek on 18:50 1st-Dec-01 GMT #2b7-11281 Very sad news about George Harrison. My wife's favourite band, by the way. Lee, I'll be coming from Shrewsbury M54 / M6 etc. I'm sure we can arrange to meet somewhere on route. Whereabouts are you? Anyone else need a lift along the route? My daughter (aged 5) has been chosen for the orchestra in her first school xmas play and will be playing the Bongo's. If your listening Billy I wonder if you could give her a few tips. Cliff, I'd advise first come first served approach to the car in case we have to wait around for late arrivals. That is unless we want to travel in convoy. Henry, are you driving or not, otherwise someones got to stay sober on the plane and given the recent incidences I’d rather it not be me. manus martin @ on 19:45 1st-Dec-01 GMT #868-11282 We have a CD out in aid of Macmillan Cancer relief. It has six great songs sung by a lovely singer. It costs a mere £5 and is the perfect stocking filler for Christmas. Now you know what to buy your aunties, grannies etc.You can hear a sample track on Anthony's web site http://anthonymartin4@tripod.com.It is an excellent CD and if you dont believe me ask Vinny. Lindsay on 20:04 1st-Dec-01 GMT #3c3-11283 Derek, I wasn’t joking about Alastair helping Henry out with driving the bus (which means you and me can drink all we like on the plane!). It will be useful to have a back-up car in case a plane gets delayed but a convoy would be better – someone (ie. me) might feel sick and need to swap over. We can all swap about anyway so that Cliff doesn't get too bored. I won't offer to navigate – geography degrees are pretty useless really! Lindsay on 20:10 1st-Dec-01 GMT #3c3-11284 I don't think you're stupid Donald, just a crap typist. I've been stupid for as long as I can remember. My parents are both quite sensible which suggests stupidity must be acquired. However, as I appear to have passed it on to my eldest, perhaps it's actually hereditary. A puzzle indeed and one I'd try to solve but I'm far too stupid to work it all out! Lindsay on 20:24 1st-Dec-01 GMT #3c3-11285 Never really got into the Beatles (I'm far too young!) although if I had been a teenager in the sixties I'm sure I'd have loved them (boyband hysteria etc). 'I wanna hold your Haaaaaaaand' is a personal favourite as it was one of the first songs I recorded onto a tape (those big reel-to-reel ones - remember them?). My mum also recorded me singing christmas songs around the same time (makes painful listening - enough to shatter a chandelier). Take a large sweater to Cork everyone - it could get a bit chilly on the bus! Cliff on 20:42 1st-Dec-01 GMT #d2c-11286 I think the Beatles made to many great songs to count. Then in the mid 70's a more powerful version of the Beatles came along and The Undertones were born. Cliff on 20:43 1st-Dec-01 GMT #d2c-11287 The Ocean looks like a great Venue. George on 23:26 1st-Dec-01 GMT #931-11288 Being teetotal I volunteer to drive, particularly from Cork back to Dublin. Looking forward to hearing Lindsay's christmas tapes en route. I agree with Cliff about the Ocean looking a good venue from the website. Cliff on 00:21 2nd-Dec-01 GMT #df6-11289 The top 100 songs on tonight had some worthy entrants but unlike some (on the programme and on here)I don't agree that any musicians are 'geniuses'.I also think lyrics are taken far to seriously by many people, for me it's the tune that counts.I was surprised that 'Dont look back' was higher than 'Wonderwall' and 'Heart of glass' above 'Sunday Girl'.But Debbie Harry really was gorgeous wasn't she? AlexD on 01:48 2nd-Dec-01 GMT #1f2-11290 Weeel, I've always loved the sound the Undertones make, but I must say to me the lyrics are very important. Could we relate as much if the tracks were instrumental? I look forward to debating this subject over a Guinness and large Jamieson on the 20th. As for Debbie Harry, my mate shared a bedsit with Wendy James and I have the candid snaps(not rhyming slang) to prove it!!
