The story so far - Galway: the gig was in a hotel ballroom in a place called Salthill which has the air of a quiet seaside resort from the 50's.The actual venue reminded me of the sort of place you go for a wedding reception. Cliff managed to arrive there at 10 to eleven - he looked totally knackered, but 30 seconds into their set, the 'tones rejuvenating music had brought him back to life. At the start of the gig, the crowd of 300 ish mainly local people were quiet and reticent, but by the middle of the set the boys had really worked the audience hard so that there was much joyous dancing grinning happy people and no doubt a good few converts to the excellence of the Undertones. In some respects this seemed like a warm up gig, so I had high expectations for the next few nights. The band came of stage at about half-one, and then we stayed chatting with Paul until we were kicked out at 3 AM - TOP NIGHT. Henry on 12:46 21st-Dec-01 GMT #5de-11538 Dublin gig was fantastic - just like those gigs we went to 20 odd years ago - full up venue, everyone into the band and singing along to the songs - listening to 1000 people singing My perfect Cousin was simply glorious we got a double portion of Get over You + the new songs now seem to blend much better into the set as they are more confident about playing them. Marks out of 10 ......billions. Ivan @ on 13:44 21st-Dec-01 GMT #11a-11539 The Cork gig was superb, even though they were left down a little by the sound which didn't come close to the sound in the Olympia last year. I met Damian and John in O'Donoghues pub before the gig. They were tucking into a meal and pints of Murphys. Both were looking forward to the gig, and as modest as ever. I scored the set list that John was using, when the gig finished - I'm framing it! donald on 13:52 21st-Dec-01 GMT #e46-11540 Safely home but seem to have left my voice and a large piece of my liver over the water. Fantastic couple of nights, new songs are magic. I'll write more later once the shaking stops. Lindsay on 14:16 21st-Dec-01 GMT #a6a-11541 Couldn't manage a full review if I tried, due to 'ecstatic exhaustion' syndrome. However here as a summary: Dublin absolutely blinding (personally best gig of the reformation), Cork top too but audience took a bit of warming up - probably because half hadn't arrived by the start as they didn't get the letter bringing the start time forward that was on my doormat when I returned!), great to hear new songs - twice. Also (to build up the suspense!), one of our party nearly drowned, someone nearly crashed the minibus, someone lost his gig tickets, someone broke a rib and three used a rather unusual mode of transport to get around in Dublin, which resulted in an arrest - great craic eh? (apart from the rib!!!!). Best go now, jokes are bad, must sleep. Dave R on 14:38 21st-Dec-01 GMT [www.theundertones.com] #395-11542 Unfortunately, The Ocean gig for January 15th has been postponed. More details to follow as and when... Lee on 16:30 21st-Dec-01 GMT #fb0-11543 No ! No ! No ! It can't be postponed. I only came on here to wish you all a happy Christmas and New Year break. I am just about to leave work for a full 11 days and no doubt wil go online over that period but just in case wanted to wish you all well and then I get this news. What a depressing start to a holiday. Lee on 16:31 21st-Dec-01 GMT #fb0-11544 So all the best Christmas wishes to you all and take it easy ! Cheers ! Macker @ on 17:33 21st-Dec-01 GMT #3ff-11545 Only 3.5 hours to The Undertones in Limerick and I can't wait Cliff on 20:44 21st-Dec-01 GMT #ded-11547 London show cancelled???????.What a shitty welcome home. George on 21:25 21st-Dec-01 GMT #7db-11548 I've only arrived home half an hour ago after spending 8 hours 'shopping/sightseeing' in Edinburgh. How women can spend all day shopping only to buy an item from the first store they visited is totally beyond me. I was knackered when I arrived in Edinburgh after the two concerts but spending all day walking up and down Princes Street is not my idea of fun. To find that the London concert is cancelled puts a dampener somewhat on the last two days. The four new songs did blend in the set extremely well. Let's hope we all get a chance to hear them again. Cliff on 22:36 21st-Dec-01 GMT #2eb-11549 Go Henry Go!! He's in Limerick, it's 10.30pm so the band must be on as I speak.Know how you feel George, I had to go straight to work from Stansted airport and didn't finish until 8.I'm shattered. Cliff on 22:41 21st-Dec-01 GMT #2eb-11550 Dublin was awesome, a fantastic gig.The venue is great, it was packed, the crowd were well up for it and the band were brilliant. It's what the Undertones are all about, spine tinglingly good.(I think I just invented a new word there). Cliff on 22:52 21st-Dec-01 GMT #2eb-11551 The new songs are excellent, all of them IMO.'Oh Please' is very fast and hardly stops for a breath, it has a good strong feel to it.A bit Ramonesy and who's gonna complain about that? 'With a girl like you' is more Rolling Stones, medium paced, classy(nothing new there then).'Rough Escalator' seemed to be some peoples favourite, T-Rex feel to it, its brilliant, lots of catchy hooks and it stops and starts.'Touch'(?)is just a bloody good song, again a great feel to it.All of them have John O'Neill's class stamped all over them, in typical Undertones style they're all interesting, very listenable.GREAT STUFF!!
