Musings
George. Not as far as I am aware. Dave R on 10:39 10th-Apr-02 GMT #f08-13774 Julius, I've no idea of sales figures. With greatest respect to the band, I don't think there were any million sellers. I vaguely remember reading something that said they would've got a silver disc for sales of the first album if both versions (ie. the white/brick wall cover and the later colour cover) were combined. I'll try and find out if there's any figures floating about. You hear of bands etc selling X amount of records, but still owing the record company a small fortune - I think the same happened with The Jam (which might explain the countless 'hits' compilations). Arthur @ on 11:03 10th-Apr-02 GMT #29f-13775 Has anybody got an Undertones poster which could be borrowed for a short whiole. Please contact me. Lee on 12:43 10th-Apr-02 GMT #fb0-13776 The Jam were very English 'though if you know what I mean. Certainly wouldn't have sold much in the States. How did they do in Europe ? So how many did they sell Julius because for a while they were very big here. donald on 13:41 10th-Apr-02 GMT #e46-13778 Arthur I've got three which I could send or give to Vinny when he's in dinburgh next week. I'll e mail the details tonight. Jackie on 17:40 10th-Apr-02 GMT #455-13781 I'm sure we all boosted the Tones sales as we've probably all got at least three copies of everything( the first one you bought the day it was released, the second one to keep mint, the third one to get the band to sign, the fourth one in the bargain bin, the fifth one to boost the chart entry...etc sound familiar anyone??) George on 21:52 10th-Apr-02 GMT #f0f-13785 I think I read somewhere that the first album sold over 100,000 copies but as Dave suggested because of the rereleased version did not qualify for the gold disk. I don't think any of the later albums sold as well. Julius on 21:55 10th-Apr-02 GMT #807-13786 Spot-on remark Jackie, I think I have every Undertones-album at least twice, I have got 5 copies of the debutalbum and don't talk about the greatest hits CD's and albums.... But, every album is worth its value. But doesn't that apply to life in general: you wanna have more of anything that is beautiful..... Lee, If my meory serves me right the best-selling album of the Jam in the UK shifted 400,00 copies. Compare that with Oasis. In Europe the Jam were never big, no hits in Holland and only the 'trans-global express'-album hitted the charts here (top 20). In Holland the Jam only played 1000-capacity venues which were mostly filled by English fans who travelled along! Julius on 21:56 10th-Apr-02 GMT #807-13787 Ofcourse I mean 400,000 wilke @ on 23:01 10th-Apr-02 GMT #9f7-13790 bbc 2 right now show about hippies john peel talking about his hippie days far out man .a far cry from being at the for front of punk. ps wife back in the morning after 24 hours on a bus and on a boat. cant wait talk soon see ya Arthur on 23:42 10th-Apr-02 GMT #29f-13791 Vinny Cunningham and Michael Bradley are doing a radio interview on the Brian Morton Show, BBC Radio Scotland, this coming Tuesday (16 April at 6.45 pm).
