There is a good interview with Lydon in Mojo. What I like about the guy is that he always stood up for what he believed in, and took the flack for it, and has always been consistent. People like him who 'push the envelope' as the americans say, improve things for the rest of society. 25 years ago he was getting aggro for having green hair. Soon after, punk-inspired fashion was everywhere; you could buy 'punk-style' t-shirts in Littlewoods. It really pissed me off when I read a sneering article recently in the Daily Mail about punk: 'Where are they now, it changed nothing etc'.

Anyway, maybe we could nominate Lydon as one of the 'people's peers' next time round. Not that he'd necessarily accept it, though I like the idea of Lord Lydon (of Palm Springs or wherever).

p2 I totally agree with all you've just said about Mr Lydon. Prime Minister Lydon sounds better than Lord Lydon of Palm Springs. We've had many 'heated debates' on here about his influence and status before but I thought I was his main defender. Glad to hear there is another supporter.

Hi Jackie - I heard Mr Lydon on Jonafon Woss one Saturday morning where he made his contempt for the Clash clear and ended by saying - I prefer content to cliche of which in Mr Lydon's view and mine the Clash were fine exponents. Occasionally we get the odd American on here who saw the Tones supporting the Clash and who have all said they blew them off the stage. The Tones never played with the ex pub rockers after that. I'm glad nobody on here likes Jim Davidson who is a low life git. As for Stan Colllymore - he was doing a phone on Radio 5 a few weeks prior to the World Cup. Most of the calls conerned England's opener against Sweden and the programme ran to a largely uncontroversial end until the last caller who suggested Stan should be the England manager. 'Why's that?' enquired the much travelled striker. 'Because if anyone knows a lot about thumping Swedes it's you!' This was swiftly followed by hurried shouts of 'Get him off will ya!!'

Not seen the Lydon article in Mojo P2. Will have to check it out. He had a right go at Dominic Mohan when he interviewed him (or tried to interview him anyway!) for the Stun a few months ago, which was no more than that slug deserved. Had a right good giggle over breakfast at that. Certainly can't fault his views or fail to admire his enviable intelligence but personally I'd like to see him take these standpoints further. He's wasted in the U.S. - he should come back and embark on a series of lectures in schools. Can you imagine that! Suggested Titles anyone?

Why anyone would want to give Stan Collymore a job is beyond me (or why anyone would want to listen to that piece of sh*t* either for that matter). Makes even Dominic Mohan appear acceptable. And I won't even bother commenting on Jim Davidson - isn't worth tiring my typing fingers out for. NE1 chatting 2nite?

Now that's a great idea - Sir John of Lydon lecturing in schools. I can just see the headlines: Anarchy in the tUcKshop etc. There is a great photo of Lydon in a recent Q magazine (I read all this glossy crap in the local library) posing with Dame Kate of Bush.

Hi Arthur, I do not deny what Mr Lydon stands for and of course have been a believer since Adam was a lad, but listening to him now just sounds corny and out of time.Its just as soon as he opens his mouth I cringe. But I guess I'm out voted. Fair enough.

I'm with you Jackie.For impressionable young teenagers Lydon was impressive all those years ago, we loved all he stood for in the same way teenagers do today when somebody 'anti the system' comes along.Punk came along at a time when the music scene had lost its 'glam' and was getting taken over by disco...YUK!! The Pistols were our way of sticking our fingers up at the disco kids and latching on to something completely different that we felt strongly about, but as I've said on here before, you believe in a lot of this 'if the kids are united' stuff when you are one, but now? do me a favour.I'm not slagging him, I've nothing against him, but I certainly don't admire or look up to him..for what?

Sandinista was a great album - although it was a triple by todays standards it'd nto really fill 1.5 CDs top of me head 'Something About England' 'Somebody Got Murdered' 'Sound Of Sinners' and the epic 'Charlie Don't Surf'.

however Combat Rock was stunning - both visually and aurally stimulating. If you wanna hear something weird start KYR in the middle.

We seem to be covering a lot of old ground here, Lydon and the Clash, have been debated many times......Sandinista...I believe the verdict is...A great Single LP in there but whats your track listing?....Lydon love him or loathe him you can't help but have an opinion on him.CMoS Elbow....I find so dull and does'nt the singer sound a hell of a lot like Peter Gabriel? Feeder....Average....Doves....Lo​ve 'em.

I Remember Frank Skinner saying about Lydon's Fantasy Football Appearance, that he was great before hand, really personable and then when they started filming, he just turned on the act, wind up the audience and generally be obnoxious. Frank said he was so disillusioned with Lydon after that.

I think Lydon is a hero and always great for a quote.I am sure it is all an act after all he lives in LA but he also talks a lot of sense. Not to put to fine a point on it, his music and views changed my life so he can do no wrong in my book (sorry but been on the shandy). He doesnt seem to have a sense of humour though and you really need that on the Graham Norton show cos its just him showing off and he's too fast to be upstaged. He just looked totally out of place and I was cringing as well as Jackie. PM or Sir John would suit. Favourite of the night was Dame Kate of Bush!

Frank Skinner's choice of football team shows he has a sense of humour, but that doesn't necessarily make him funny. My enjoyment of Frank Skinner is prejudiced by his over inflated salary and ego.

And Graham Norton is not as funny as he likes to think he is. Without his autocue he can barely put two words together. Angus Deayton is another one who seems totally reliant on his autocue. Like today's pop bands, all style and no substance.

I disagree Georgio. GN doesnt use an autocue after the first bit. You can tell that as he has quips for situations as they arise. Angus Deayton meanwhile is totally scripted. No better than Bob Monkhouse IMO.And GN wears lovely suits:-)
