The Mail on Sunday has a small supplement today on city breaks In Holland. I suppose I better go and get a better city break holiday brochure to see what info I can get from that. Just been spectating at Great North Run. Thought I would stand next to Susan Parry this year. She's a lovely looking lass. Came home from spectating to see an interview they did about 30 minutes ago being shown on TV.

Terminus is sounding well dodgy. Been searching and thisistravel.co.uk (excellent v.frank guide to hotels etc) has come up with the Rembrandt Residence (111 rooms/350yds SW of Dam Sq. but peaceful location). Check it out and see what you think. Not sure of prices - will check later as I'm off out now. Wilke - what does the book say?

If anyone has any time, if you click on 'Accommodation Reviews' down the left on the main page, then select Amsterdam, it gives an seemingly honest opinion of each hotel, with star rating and location. (The Terminus doesn't feature, which is worrying in itself!).

This is a hotel on a boat in Amsterdam called the Amstel Botel, which seems different. Good game on TV today. A bit of passion and lots of noise. Like watching the Great North Run, never did like taking part. 4 years ago I finished 123rd and I will never do as well again, so why put myself through 13 mile of pain!

Sorry for not replying soon to your questions, but I had a good reason; I was away for the weekdn to see the Undertones film. It was shown in Eindhoven, which is 180 kilometers from where I live and last week the show was set from 2000, which is a nice time to 23.45; so I stayed overnight at a friends's place. Great to see the film in full and on big screen. Indeed it is a great&honest portrait of band who did not know how good they were! Great work by Vinny, let me say that once again! There sadly only 11 people in the cinema, it was a 40-seater, besides me and my mate, there was an older man and the other 8 were all youngsters, early 20's, so that sounds promising. And remember Eindhoven is just a town in the south of Holland so 11 is a success I would say

On the website Terminus looks good to me, it is on the outskirts of the redlightdistrict, head one side and you end up straight on one of the main and busiest streets , head the other direction, well you end up in......but we are just there for the Undertones, arent't we?. It is a15minute walk from paradiso, but sont take the short cut

If you do a search via Google for the Amstel Botel, you get a lot of negative reports: it is not in a fine area either....

I did not make myself very clear on the terminus, it is outside the redlight district not on the outskirts but very near to it and with 'main and busiest streets' I meant not a kind of street you think but a busy shopping and business area,

it looks like its the citadel for me and maureen as we want to book some were quick

Wilke - searched a couple of booking sites and it seems no availability for The Citadel, if you try and succeed perhaps ask how many other rooms going as I doubt we'll all get in there as its only small. Rembrandt Residence has 3x more rooms but that has no availability either. www.bookings.nl show no. of rooms available for each hotel for selected dates. Sick to death of looking now! A superior in the Terminus sounds okay to me - 5 mins from station so not far to drag my case.
