Hmm Fire Engines ? 'Candy Skin' is the only song of theirs I remember, the chorus of which (I think) went 'Candy skin, oh candy skin who'd have guessed your luck. Candy skin oh candy skin. Candy skin oh candy suck' Always wondered what that was all about.

Early Jesus & mary Chain (also Scottish) kept going on about Candy - 'Some Candy Talking' etc. Is this some obscure Scottish reference ?

i always presumed the J+MC references to 'Candy' and 'Honey' were Drugs and Sex, but maybe thats just my twisted little mind. There certainly not generally used Scottish slang. I remember John Peel playing the Fire Engines a lot and they soundded good - from Edinburgh I think. Cliff we've seen you Claire Crogan underpants so dont kid us that you werent smitten as well.

Saw the Fire Engines once in Edinburgh supporting U2 at Valentino's (alas no more) way back in '81 (jeez, that does sound like ancient history now). Pretty lively and different, from what I remember. The only song I have on tape (from JP show naturally) was 'Dischord' and it was great.

I hope for your sake Wilke that Maureen does not read your comment about her mum not coming back. For two years I had the problem of my ex-mother-in-law living 7 doors away. I would have got a shorter sentence for murder, now that's a thought!
