Musings
My daughter, eleanor, since listening to teenage treats on the car's cassette player, now bounces on the bed singig it. Or gently wanders the house singing. I was teenager when it came out. She is 8 in february. I played it, and other punk singles of the time a lot last summer, and was struck by how powerful they still were. It was, I think about the time of a piece in the guardian by some one moaning how they did'nt get punk in 77. I listened to Punks greatest hits again vol 1.5. Its still great. My god how young you all looked on the sleeve. And the snorkel coats and M & S jumpers. Hardly hear say. enough of this. A final point. My son's friend's dad played trumpet with the band on the 3rd album, Dave Price is his name Vinny on 09:01 16th-Jan-03 GMT #b43-18932 Deborah says thanks for all the greetings. She can't speak right now as she is sleeping. You know the way it is at that age....... Arthur on 10:53 16th-Jan-03 GMT #851-18933 I went out to see a Dublin group The Thrills last night who have a great single out Santa Cruz (You're not that Far) and who have been hyped to hell. If this is the best new bands can come up with, the Undertones have nothing to fear. The first part of the set was alright (just) and the last three songs were good but definately not the best things I've ever heard, in fact destinctly retro. They're playing at the Nerve Centre tonight supported by Jesse Malin and I think that would definately be worth a look. Lee @ on 12:49 16th-Jan-03 GMT #64a-18952 Stote007 - did you get the solo album by Kevin Rowland that was released a year or 2 or more after Don't Stand Me Down. That was poor too. If you fancy swapping some music I'd like a listen to the latest album - 700 must be the worldwide sales - I don;t think it sold that many over here. Could you email me at home please? Adrian @ on 17:15 16th-Jan-03 GMT #7b4-18959 Surely The Thrills should supporting Jesse Malin, not the other way round? doninblack on 13:29 16th-Jan-03 GMT #ec7-19005 George, thanks for the tape. Interesting stuff. The Rezillos dates in Glasgow and Edinburgh have now changed to 27th and 28th March. Should be worth going along. doninblack on 14:55 16th-Jan-03 GMT #ec7-19006 The Rezillos choice of venues would suit The Undertones too (hint, hint) - Glasgow, The Garage and Edinburgh, Liquid Room. Liam @ on 16:35 16th-Jan-03 GMT [www.theundertones.com] #1f0-19007 Wilke why can't you get into the chat room? What error do you get displayed? Don't worry anyway as the new official site is going to have a full functioning chat area with multiple rooms and without all those stupid pop up adverts etc. Should be up and running in a couple of weeks. Cliff on 19:25 16th-Jan-03 GMT #5d8-19009 Very good donald. Jackie on 19:59 16th-Jan-03 GMT #81e-19010 Did you hear Barry and Robin Gibb want to move to Devon- at least they will still be able to see Morris dancing.... Jackie on 20:00 16th-Jan-03 GMT #81e-19011 ..sorry that was so tasteless, but these have just been flying around today. I also hear they are doing a re release of 'How Deep is Your Bruv'... wilke on 21:14 16th-Jan-03 GMT #a02-19013 hi .liam when i log on to the chatroom the box were you put you name and pass word stay`s blank can you help .donald sexy eyes more like bloodshot eyes .jackie keep the jokes coming talk soon see ya wilke on 21:19 16th-Jan-03 GMT #a02-19014 the revs are playing the nerve center on jan 29 has anyone seen then and are they worth going to Steve on 22:15 16th-Jan-03 GMT #96d-19015 'Dont Stand Me Down' is wonderful, a work of passion...'What's She Like' is fantastic. Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy, not so keen on the early stuff but the Lilac Time's first L.P is a big favourite of mine, beautifully arranged pastoral music. one that you sit back and just float away to.......Currenrtly reading a great book called 'Rock till you Drop' which is basically saying that Rock music should be played by youth not old wrinklys like Mick Jagger pretending to still be cutting edge. When was the last great Stones L.P.....Exile? ....Some Girls?....The Acoustic 'Stripped' l.p of a couple of years ago is o.k, but intrestingly it does'nt include a song written past 1972!!!! The writer tries to qualify his stance by saying Footballers/ Sportsmen are made to retire whilst still in thier prime, so why not rockers....he has a point, no more Elton John.... George on 22:27 16th-Jan-03 GMT #a35-19016 I suppose one of the reasons these wrinkled rockers continue is unlike footballers who eventually got overtaken by younger, fitter and better footballers, the old rockers don't necessary get replaced by groups who are better. More often they are clones of what went before. Does anyone else struggle to recognise the bands on TOTP2 after the late 80's. George on 22:34 16th-Jan-03 GMT [www.fender.com/misc/strummer/] #a35-19017 At what age should pop stars retire? I suppose anyone 10 years older than John O'Neill as a starter as opposed to fixing a definite age of say 50 years old which of course would include Joe Strummer. WILKE on 22:37 16th-Jan-03 GMT #1f9-19018 GEORGE I SAW TOP OF THE POPS ON WED NIGHT AND THEY PLAYED THE WORST SONG IN POP HISTORY BOXER BEAT BY JOE BOXE SAND THE PEOPLE WHO WERE DANCING LOOK LIKE THEY NEED A GOOD KICK IN THE B*&^£ BRING BACK LEGS AND CO [ANYONE OVER 40 WILL KNOW WHO I`M TALKING ABOUT] Lindsay on 22:48 16th-Jan-03 GMT #b57-19019 Liam, a chatroom with multiple rooms? Sounds well dodgy! Count me out for the 'serious discussion room' but I'm well in for the 'letsby silly room' or even the 'relaxing virtual massage room' if it's staffed by a Dreamboy lookalike. Lindsay on 22:52 16th-Jan-03 GMT #b57-19020 Hi Wilke! We must be psychic, I was just about to reply to George to say TOTP2 had JoBoxers on and the dress and hair sense of band and audience was appalling. Did we all really look as bad as that in the 80s? Lindsay on 23:07 16th-Jan-03 GMT #b57-19022 Can't say I would lust after a wrinkly old rocker but if people still buy their stuff and they're happy strutting the same, then why not. Most of them don't need to do it for the money so there has to be some other motivation. Unfortunately most are also under the delusion that it's not their money which attracts the young females to their sides but you can't blame them for that either!
