Very funny story about Billy's drumstick Julius. A bit like using the Turin Shroud as a dishcloth. Cactus on 08:15 11th-Jun-03 GMT #574-21898 Rock and Roll souviners anyone? I have one of the two, little, tacky, plastic union flags that were attached to the outside of the 100 Club when the Sex Pistols first reformed and held their press conference there. It's the sort children wave at the Queen. My friend pulled it off the sign afterwards and gave it to me; I wasn't actually there. Cactus on 08:20 11th-Jun-03 GMT #574-21899 I went to see the Undertones a number of times with a friend who had a special pair of 'gig glasses'. These were basically a bashed up pair of NHS specs held together with tape/paperclips so that it didn't matter if they got lost or broken etc.. Feargal borrowed them and wore then for a whole rendition of What's With Terry. Afterwards he graciously returned them to my friend with a bit of a flourish. I've no idea if he still has them. Cactus on 08:23 11th-Jun-03 GMT #574-21900 Talking of that same friend, we used to take a couple of Mars Bars to Undertones gigs and try and lob them at Billy's cymbals! Can't remember if we ever managed to hit one. Cactus on 08:29 11th-Jun-03 GMT #574-21901 Went to see AFI in London last Friday. Failed to follow any of Cliff's standing instructions for gig preparation and as a result felt so faint and sick I actually had to totaly get away to the side of the venue and prop myself up by holding onto some stair banisters! Don't think I've ever done that before. I blame it on the cold I bought back from German and still have. It was very hot too. The venue was packed and I got the feeling that AFI are in the process of becoming 'the next big thing'. I felt very old there too. The surge forward by the crowd at the start totally reminded me of see the Undertones when they were at their height. It's been a long week & it's only Wednesday (excuse tenuous Tones link)... but after several listens I'm in 'here comes the summer'mode & it's like that pre-Fleadh night at the Mean Fiddler all over again! Four new songs with shades of the Petrols at their high octane best, the Wedding Present at their most heart-searing, Ash, the Chesterfields, and pure, unadulterated undertones of some other band that once melted my heart. Yowser! Excuse length of message, but it goes with the territory. PS: Anyone for Guilfest? (my hometown, despite my current Lancashire tenure) AlexD on 23:44 11th-Jun-03 GMT #062-21913 High spirited.
