Have to admit to loving REM.Saw them at the Lyceum in 83,shortly after the Undertones at Selhurst Park i think.I had just bought 'Murmur',which i still like alot.Michael Stipe did a wonderful acapella 'Moon River',which i will never forget.I recall playing it to somebody who pompously said, theyre quite good as a 'pub band',i had the last laugh when at least 10 years later he was discovering them!

Rick on 09:20 15th-Jul-03 GMT #2a9-22686
Jackie - shame on you for your 'who's John Squire' comment. The Stone Roses debut album is probably only bettered in debut album terms by a certain band from Derry.

Saddam on 12:00 15th-Jul-03 GMT #4f2-22687
Meester Cactus asked if there were any Undertones Fans in Iraq. Well, let me tell you I am the biggest fan of those loveable moptops. In fact here in my bunker their musics are all I listen to. My favourite track is 'Under the Boardwalk' - because in fact that is where I am hiding now. Anyway nice emailing to all you nice 'Bumdingers,' as I believe you call yourselves. Maybe see you at an Undertones Jig sometime. Saddam

Saddam on 12:00 15th-Jul-03 GMT #4f2-22688
Hey you crazy bumdingers! Why you not highlight my message in white, like the rest? You will pay dearly for this, you and your Undertone chums.

wilke on 10:00 15th-Jul-03 GMT #69c-22689
hi.great review vinny.talk soon see ya.ps saw rem at slane great gig.

Adrian on 12:00 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7b4-22690
So some of you do like REM,but no comments when I mention them.I think I've been sent to Coventry,Humdingers style.Ah well,I'll live! Just to warn you,in the coming months you can ignore comments from me regarding:Beck,The Willard Grant Conspiracy,Spiritualized,Radiohead and Dexys.Right now I'm off to Coventry for a wee while.

Lee on 12:42 15th-Jul-03 GMT #64a-22691
Adrian - meet you there then! You can't even joke about being sent to Coventry without upsetting someone - both myself and Dominic (Soon) work there and Steve lives there. Don't mind REM and have a few of their albums but my biggest memory is at a festival before they were famous. Stipe wanders on with shaved head, band start playing and sure enough after 10 minutes bottles start showering down.

Cliff on 12:53 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7e3-22692
I know this is nothing to do with music or even football, but i thought it was interesting.A girl that works for us at the moment is from Zimbabwe and shes been giving me an insight into their culture.when naming children the norm is to give 1 african and 1 english name, however, many of the less educated parents dont know the difference between a name and a word, or even a phrase. She knows people with the following names:'Evidence'(very popular apparently)'Godknows' and 'Nomatter'.Also, when a man wants to marry a woman, he has to pay her parents for her!! This could be money or if hes a poor farmer maybe a couple of cows.Apparently there are no refunds if they get a divorce ;-)

Cliff on 12:59 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7e3-22693
Adrian, all of us leave messages that frequently dont get any response, its just one of those things that happens when you talk thru this medium.Dont take it personally.REM have been mentioned on here many times, Jackie in particular has said shes a fan on several occassions.

Cliff on 13:02 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7e3-22694
Of course you couldn't expect me to respond when you left a message a few weeks ago saying 'well done Wolves, back where they belong' coz you were obviously trying to wind me up.However I totally agree, they do belong in the Prem.

Vinny on 13:35 15th-Jul-03 GMT #489-22695
Adrian, I spent the guts of an hour writing that excellent review(joke!) and apart from Wilke, not one person thanked me! You'll get used to talking to yourself on this site, it's one of the criteria of joining, don't take it personally!Hello, hello, hello?? Bye.........

Cliff on 13:40 15th-Jul-03 GMT #2ca-22696
An hour, is that all?? blimey mine took several days ;-) Great review Vinny. We have one of those old fashioned bandstands in Southend and I can imagine it would be a great place for a gig.

wilke on 13:50 15th-Jul-03 GMT #69c-22697
must tell you about the guy with a tones t shirt who we met at the gig he got from e bay got the band to sign it the thing about it had feargal on it.adrian dont worry just keep posting stuff better still come in to the chat room thur night around 10 pm

Adrian on 17:45 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7b4-22698
I feel all loved again! p.s.Cliff,the Wolves comment wasn't for your benefit,my Father used to watch Wolves regularly in the fifties with two very good freinds of his.So I 've always had something of a soft spot after hearing many tales from him about the crack they used to have.

Jackie on 17:13 15th-Jul-03 GMT #675-22699
Rick -shame on me? :-) I realised it was him when they played 'that' Stone Roses song, people danced and I thought they were doing it as a cover. David put me right of course! Pea brain strikes again.

Dominic on 19:10 15th-Jul-03 GMT #676-22701
What do you mean soon Lee? I work there now and very close to Bedworth! I will be much better on your (posh) side of Coventry. But at least the village I live in has 6 pubs!

donald on 19:11 15th-Jul-03 GMT #6d0-22702
I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Vincent for taking the time to write the review. He's not been writing for very long and we know it cant have been easy:)Joking aside, the reviews really are appreciated by those who havent made it- next best thing to being there.Look forward to the video. Cliff and Henry are probably the top wordsmiths, but they do get extra storytelling material by wearing lycra cycling shorts and silk scarfs to gigs (Henry)and Cliff has a habit of urinating on childrens christmas presents. Vinny, where were you, Liam and Wilke placed in the modelling competition?

wilke on 19:19 15th-Jul-03 GMT #69c-22703
donald it was fixed me vinny and liam came nowere .but theres allways next year.so talk soon see ya

George on 22:30 15th-Jul-03 GMT #7a9-22706
I must apologise to Adrian for my ignorance cos' I can't name any songs by 3 of the groups he listed. Most of my recent playings of 'Thrill Me' have been from the John Peel sessions. It's got to the stage now I expect John Peel to introduce it everytime I play it on the record player. Good review Vinny. We hope your prediction of TOTP proves to be right, especially if it is introduced as the weeks new No. 1

Lindsay on 23:54 15th-Jul-03 GMT #a4e-22707
Talking of Wolves, anyone going to the Panto at the Grand Theatre??

Lindsay on 23:55 15th-Jul-03 GMT #a4e-22708
PS. Great review Vinny :))

Vinny on 00:17 16th-Jul-03 GMT #69c-22709
I was only jesting about review responses but thanks for the comments anyway...I am off to London for 3 days filming tomorrow(non Undertones related, sort of!!) so I'll see what the craic is about the chatroom on Thursday night. Talk soon.
