Musings
Here in my house with Jackie and George (he turned up for breakfast and a shower!) listening to (surprise, surprise) the Undertones!!! Excellent gig last night - Casbah Rock indeed (yes, they played it and Jackie and me missed half cos we were in the loos!). Fast and furious, sums it up. One belter after another. New songs got good reception, esp. Joyland. Lindsay on 11:56 4th-Oct-03 GMT #a91-24291 Place was like the old days. Stage 1 foot off the floor, no barriers (which might have helped) and Paul couldn't jump about cos he would have hit the ceiling!! (Mickey reminded him that he was 6 foot 1 so it wasn't a good idea). Old and new songs mixed in together. There Goes Norman was a treat and Top Twenty was probably the best song of the night - great to hear it again and amazing everyone seemed to know the words!! (and that a B-Side). Met up with Henry & Temi and Derek - Derek how's the toe?!!! Place turned into a club after - playing Madness, Blondie, Buzzcocks, Adam Ant and Jimmy Jimmy and GOY. Lindsay on 11:58 4th-Oct-03 GMT #a91-24292 Seeing everyone (old and young) dancing to the record versions of the latter was just superb. Best compliment of the night was when someone described all the madness at the front as 'a moshpit for the over-30s' (Over-30s!!!!! That is the awesome power of the Undertones, it makes us all look 10 years younger!!!) :)))))) Can't wait to do it all again tonight.... Lindsay on 12:06 4th-Oct-03 GMT #a91-24293 PS. Thanks to Mark and Bob for organising a great night out!! Jackie on 12:11 4th-Oct-03 GMT #a91-24294 Lindsay you tinker you HAVE done a review! Couldnt have put it better myself. BRILLIANT gig, best bits for me was There Goes Norman, awesome 'When Saturday Comes' and as usual True Confessions. But where was Tearproof???? The audience were mint- they were pogoing before the band even came on stage. Here comes Leeds!!!!! George on 12:15 4th-Oct-03 GMT #a91-24295 Excellent gig. Bob the bar manager and Mark the promoter seemed to be enjoying themselves more than most in the crowd. True fans! New songs went down a treat. A very young crowd as well. Sold out. Even if Sunderland thrash Sheffield 5-0 it will still not be as good as last night. The Cockpit are in for a treat tonight. They played The Love Parade in the soundcheck, but not at the gig. Hopefully it will make an appearance soon. Also played Casbah Rock for 1st time in 25 years. Derek on 14:28 4th-Oct-03 GMT #934-24296 What can I say. Another top gig. Sound was very good. Hit after hit, mixture of old and new. Joyland was good. Must be getting old though, as I'm sure I can remember more slow songs so I could take a breather. Could not believe how many were singing along to the songs, even at the back of the place. I honestly could not hear Paul when they were singing MPC. 25 years since they played Casbah rock. I'd never heard it live before. Superb! Taking my steel toe caps next time though instead of trainers. It stings a bit when a 20 stone monster pogos with all his might on your big toe. Took my breather then to check the damge. Luckily only bruised and broken nail. Had a great time. Recouperating today. See you Sunday those who are going. Henry has got the set list and is doing the review, although you've said it all Lindsay. HAVE A NICE TIME TONIGHT EVERYONE. stote007 on 19:22 4th-Oct-03 GMT #e2b-24297 Can't wait 'til Monday. Will be in London around 1500. Who's going? Vinny on 02:06 5th-Oct-03 GMT [www.theundertones.com] #49c-24298 Could any of those fortunate souls who are attending these recent gigs please send in reviews, pix etc for publication on the .com site? Lindsay, Derek and George, well done so far. If you have time add a bit more and send it to us asap. New CD released on Monday, unbelievable what has happened since that 'one off' gig in Nov 1999!!
