Musings
I spotted that bit too Wayne. I was stood right next to that lot. I thought Mickey was going to ask them to get him a pint when he'd figured out what they were doing. That pause at the start wasn't great - my firs Tones gig in 20 years and they walk on to 5 minutes of silence. Still - it was worth waiting for. Adrian has posted this on the TPE site 'Saw Steve Mack in the pub across the road from The Garage on Monday, asked him if he was going to get up on stage(with the Undertones)he replied'in my dreams'!' Lee on 12:55 9th-Oct-03 GMT #64a-24490 I can't believe anyone on here is that precious about it all to threaten someone. Yes we have some fiery comments and reactions from time to time but surely we all believe that at the end of it all we all love the Undertones. The point is that even perfect bands still have strong and weak points - and people have different opinions and so the weak points for 1 person are a strong point for another. We will never all agree 100% - that's life but to take it further than what it is is just stupid. Come back Cliff - shall we start a national campaign? George on 14:47 9th-Oct-03 GMT #e26-24491 Well that's one of my best weeks holidays for a long time. 860 miles, 5 gigs, 1 football match, 1 race, 2 nights sleeping in my car, 2 nights at my sisters and two nights sleeping in hotels. Progressed thru' the week from a Welcome Break car park to the executive suite. Also had a new CD to keep me company for part of the journey. Great to meet everyone again, and also to meet people for the first time. Derek and Mark from Sheffield were at the Leicester gig. Best place to view the gig I can ever remember. I was literally in Micky's face, at the same height, but away from the mosh pit which was to my left and about two foot lower. The venue also sloped down away from the stage! George on 14:52 9th-Oct-03 GMT #e26-24492 The concert at the Garage was excellent but dangerously hot. I only danced for the first four songs, and then let common sense prevail, due to the heat. I was knackered. I have also come down with a cold and a sore throat. Throat probably due to smokey venues, singing along and being daft enough to sleep in the car. CD is excellent, but since there were only three songs I had not heard previously (until the samples were made available) then I already knew what to expect. I agree that Mickey's songs are probably the catchiest. Arthur on 15:21 9th-Oct-03 GMT #991-24493 This is not the first time that Cliff has had to put up with threats or intimidation. What saddens me is that at a time when I was a bit sheepish about contributing to the net, he got on the site and sparked it into life, a little bit like an uncle at a party when everyone is awkward or shy. He also flew over from London to Derry and even paid to have a banner made so the band would have something. Arthur on 15:22 9th-Oct-03 GMT #991-24494 All the way along, he's been ridiculed and slagged for basically being positive and enthusiastic. Now that's the way the world is but there is one aspect to this that I have noticed and which, I feel needs to be addressed and that is the anti-English sentiment that occasionally surfaces here. Its one thing to have a laugh and a joke and a bit of banter but most of the put downs etc that I've noticed have all been directed at people who are English. I'd like to think it was coincidence but I don't really think so. I know that life's too short to put up with crap like that but come back Cliff, you can't let cowardly, rascist morons win. stote007 on 15:59 9th-Oct-03 GMT #8ae-24495 Spotted in The Garage on Monday, as Lee mentioned below, Steve Mack of TPE and that Olympic rowing geezer with the shoulder length blonde hair, one of Steve Redgrave's mates. With a particularly pleasant young lady. stote007 on 16:14 9th-Oct-03 GMT #8ae-24496 The rower's name is Tim Foster and he won Gold in Sydney with Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent. Candidate for famous Rocking Humdinger?? AlexD on 17:01 9th-Oct-03 GMT #5f6-24497 Wilke, gimme a call later if you can. Jackie on 18:33 9th-Oct-03 GMT #b05-24498 I think we've all got to do a lot of chatting later. If I can stay awake. Like George my 'mosh pit neck' developed into pre flu neck- ditto hoarse throat and aching limbs. Feeling slightly more sentient today- thank goodness. Steve on 18:38 9th-Oct-03 GMT #397-24499 A last minute desicion to go to leicester was one of the best things I have done in ages. Having been very cynical in the past about the band reforming ,I may have to eat my words....They rocked big time....Loved every minute of it , not so sure about the new song that sounded like Spirit in the Sky. only wished they played some later songs as well..........Maybe next time!...Got talking to a guy at the end who has had a week off work to follow Killing Joke around on tour, he reckons he made a bad descion after seeing the Undertones. AlexD on 19:08 9th-Oct-03 GMT #5f6-24500 Stote, Wilke's offline at the moment, if you haven't started the trip over already he says he'll meet you in Sandino's before the gig to give you your ticket.Film starts 8.30. Cliff on 20:12 9th-Oct-03 GMT #a6c-24501 Thanks everyone, you're not a bad bunch ;-) You're right I know, I'm being a big girls blouse, fuck 'em indeed. stote007 on 20:14 9th-Oct-03 GMT #cef-24502 Alex, thanks for the message. I'll be in Sandino's around 8ish. Arriving in Belfast at lunchtime Saturday. Cliff on 20:14 9th-Oct-03 GMT #a6c-24503 Stote, sorry about the drink afterwards on Monday night.A few of us waited outside the venue for about 10 minutes but we lost you. stote007 on 20:14 9th-Oct-03 GMT #cef-24504 Cliff, as some band once said: 'Got to Have You Back'! stote007 on 20:16 9th-Oct-03 GMT #cef-24505 No worries Cliff - I stayed inside like a fool. I was knackered anyway! I'll be there in Brighton for sure. stote007 on 20:19 9th-Oct-03 GMT #cef-24506 Sentient, Jackie????! Jackie on 20:21 9th-Oct-03 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi] #b05-24507 2 brilliant gig reviews posted on John Peels BBC message board. If the link works. Jackie on 20:23 9th-Oct-03 GMT #b05-24508 Hell ,have I used the wrong word again? Wayne on 21:04 9th-Oct-03 GMT #c4f-24509 Cliff- glad to see you back. Any word re Nerve Centre ? julius on 21:23 9th-Oct-03 GMT #049-24510 cliff, glad to see you back. Don' get ruled by abuse, coz the sender of this mail gets what he wants. In the early 80's when I followed my local footballteam all over Holland I was used getting lots of abuse at away-games. It made us even stronger in following this team Wayne on 21:25 9th-Oct-03 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/music/2003/10/undertones.shtml] #c4f-24511 Casbah review AlexD on 22:09 9th-Oct-03 GMT #5f6-24512 Bollocks, need to cancel my 'Free the West Brom One' t-shirt Lindsay on 23:16 9th-Oct-03 GMT #987-24513 STEVE - what did we tell ya! I remember at the film you saying you'd never come to a gig. Glad you enjoyed it and want to come along again. Arthur on 01:50 10th-Oct-03 GMT #2bf-24514 Great to have you back Cliff, you cockney bollix! Stote, Alex or Wayne. I'm going up to Derry on Saturday and going past Belfast International Airport on the way. What time are you arriving? Am I the only person becoming disenchanted with professional football.
