Check out the pix... has this place even got a stage? Looks like the band might be playing on top of the bar! Might be one of the weirdest venues the band has ever played in.

I am always a bit frightened to put out info on this site before the band officially does, I dont want to interfere with their policy on this matter, but here in Holland local promotors have started to anounce the gigs on their websites and started to make publicity for them locally so here is the dutch tour scheme as far as I know

The Undertones are hitting Holland in february 2004 with 5 gigs in 5 days, well great news ofcourse especially as there is a huge demand!

there is even talk of 2 sessions for national radio here, both on very good and wellknown shows, very credible programmes and: one might be even televised too!

Okay, as all gigs have been announced locally alreday on local websites. Here is the tourscheme as far as I know: february 17th tuesday: Ekko In Utrecht; the 18th they play Finnegann's in Hengelo, the 19th(thursday) Melkweg('milkyway') in Amsterdam, the 20th LVC in Leiden and 21st(saturday)in JC Bolwerk in Sneek

I will give some extra info on all 5 locations: They play Ekko in Utrecht on tuesday the 17th, it is a small club holding about 300 I guess. Utrecht is 20 miles south of Amsterdam, our 4th major city (the city where I was born&raised!). this clubowner has been trying to get the undertones for a long long time, he is a true fan of the bnad. there is quite some local following too for th ekind of music the Undertones play, so of all the gigs this one is the most likely to be sold out soon I would guess. You should be able to return to amsterdam after the gig.

Finnegan's is new for me, an Irish pub in Hengelo. Hengelo is in the east of Holland (near Enschede), this location was probably choosen because the dutch promotor has an Irish music agency. In this region though the Undertones played a couple of gigs in the early 80's so the gig will draw some old fans and there are quite some lovers of punkmusic there. Imagine this could be a great gig as it is a small and cosy place and local people in that region love partying and dont get that many foreign bands. This is my tip for the party gig! One problem: no way you can get back by train to amsterdam after the gig, so hire a car or seek a local hotel.

On thursday the band play Amsterdam, the Melkweg is as famous as Paradiso and about the same size, even bigger I think, it will hold 1500 I guess. Paradiso is near this square(Leidseplein) were the trams departed and the internetcafe's were, well the Melkweg is just on the other side of Leidseplein as Paradiso! Last thursday i was in Paradiso (The Thermals) and I spoke to many pewople who said they dont want to miss the Underetones now!

On Friday it's LVC Leiden. Leiden is just south of Schiphol and north of The Hague. It is an ancient student town, also a place to get back to Amsterdam. LVC had many gigs in the early 80's (I saw the Upstarts there), small club too. A hell to get to on a friday night with all the traffic jams from amsterdam and the hague. The brave will reach Leiden!

But than Sneek, I can assure you that the Undertones gig is the event of 2004 for the town of Sneek. Sneek is a beautiful, small town way up north in the province of Fryslan(frisia). beautiful district with lots of lakes. No clue whatsoever how the Undertones got booked there. But the Undertones played some gigs here in 1981 so some might have remembered them, also quite active punkcommunity there who book a lot of gigs. But the Undertones are one of the few foreign bands to visit this part of Holland.. No way you get out of Sneek by public transport after the gig, hire a car. Sneek is about 70 miles from Groningen airport where Ryanair lands (Stansted only I believe). On sunday you might get by train from Sneek to Groningen. This is the mystery gig for me. Could be the secret tip for all of us. Even us humdingers will be tourist attractions there!

I think all gigs have been booked, but it might be wise to verify before you start to book flights and accomodation. As I told one of these radiosessions might interfere with one of the dates

all gigs are at interesting locations, ofcourse I expect to see Rick turning up in Utrecht (just 10 minutes walking from your employers HQ). the utrecht club has had many famous acts in its early days! This gig will be sold out soon as the interest is huge!

Melkweg in Amsterdam is great too, wellknown. The Manics played there so this should inspire Paul and the rest to do a better gig (wont be too difficult). I know people who missed the Paradiso gig last year and now see the revanche

Hengelo and Sneek are unique locations, just because they are off-route for most tourschemes. Could become great gigs because of the remarkable locations (people there dont get to see that many bands)

and the best news is that the Riplets probably will be support on all gigs, except amsterdam. The Riplets new Cd is out on february 2nd

ofcourse all these messages were supported by our tourist board.

'get what you need' will have an official release in Holland on BMG, which is major and will be promoted heavily!
