It says everything about the charts today that a copy(oops,cover version)is the Christmas No 1.I'd like to know the stats on how many no.1's this year have been copies(darnit, I mean covers)and what the most ammount of copies(there I go again, COVERS!)in the top 30 at one time is.

Barry did have original lobster t-shirts with him at Sheffield Jackie. He just didn't put them up for sale. A large t-shirt from 1980 is equivalent to very small these days. The t-shirts would barely fit on barbie now.

A collegue of me went to inform in Hengelo and the gig there wont take place in the pub itself but in a converted hall next to/belonging to the pub. It is a hall which was used for wedding parties etc and will hold about 300-400

I thought I was a good driver til I went to Sheffield. Before we started, Lisa said the city was okay now as the council had installed a new system whereby a series of coloured symbols guide you effortlessly to your destination. Simple eh? Except the practice was completely contrary to the theory.

For a start it was dark and raining bucketfuls. The red triangles (for City Hall) seem to breed on rabbit-scale and then completely had us fooled when the triangle went one way and the sign for City Hall went the other. So having driven along in a bus lane, skipping a red light, being faced with on-coming traffic cos I thought it was a one-way, as well as us all having a fit of the giggles after passing the station for the third time meaning I couldn’t see where I was going anyway for tears, I’d hasten to disagree with the Traffic Planning Dept of Sheffield City Council that their system is a monumental success. I likened it to Playschool – whichever symbol you chose always ended you up in the same place. I swear I was seeing red triangles in my sleep I was so traumatised.

Deciding to ignore all symbols, we finally navigated our own way to the Casbah only to find all the car parks were full, so it was round and round in circles in the pouring rain again – great fun eh Kev?! At last we got to the venue and it was time for some fun. Jimmy Jimmy kicked off and the mosh went mad. It’s as mad in the Casbah as it is in the Nerve Centre and got covered in beer before deciding the sound was too loud and I’d join Lisa at the side where the sound was clearer and I could actually see the band.

Can honestly say this time the Undertones left me speechless. Guess they usually do but this time quite literally, despite getting through a whole packet of cough sweets. Tried doing a westlife and miming to all the songs but it was damn frustrating – not the same at all. Did make an exception for True Confessions though and promptly lost it completely (my voice, lost the rest years ago!). God it sounded good. By the end I could’ve given Kermit a good run for his money (suppose he’s got a fair few bob) and had to retreat to the relative fresh air of the bar above. Shame about the sound as the set was excellent. Great mix of people singing along too and lots of females at the side of the stage where Damian was – can’t think why :)

Nice to meet up with new faces (Wayne and Jo) and thanks to Mark for getting the band back to Yorkshire. Really appreciate them travelling over here at such a busy time. Have a great Christmas everyone and heres to more gigs in 2004. Oh and PS. Jackie, if you leave any more toothbrushes at my house I’ll soon have more supplies than a branch of Boots!

I bought one of kids size Hypnotised T’s off of US Ebay in the summer for my youngest boy and which he was worn to Derry and Brighton gigs. Also came with a backstage pass – you’ll see from the pics that they seem to have been on a tour with a wide mix of bands. Cliff explained to me that that in fact the band had had them made up as a joke (don’t know if you can elaborate any more Cliff?).

The guy who was selling them, Ed Toth, said he had booked the band a couple of times in Allentown, Philadelphia and as support for Joe Jackson in New Jersey via a connection he had with Sire and sent me a pic of contract and one of the gig tickets.
