Musings
I always find alcohol helps with the marketing technique. To be honest I think that a few people were intrigued by the idea of the DVD and the mention in the Standard made them think that they should at least know about it- so fingers crossed some of them are tempted! George on 11:00 1st-Feb-04 GMT #61f-26494 Gis a bag of tudor. Your memory serves you well Christine. Around Newsagents at 9am to buy my Sunday Times. Great that Teenage Kicks was heard as soon as the DVD loaded. Didn't know that Feargal's 2 year old son was threatened for his dad being a pop star. Christine @ on 11:13 1st-Feb-04 GMT #671-26495 Thanks George it's good to know that I haven't entered my confused stage yet. Off to the newsagents now... jACKIE on 11:16 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26496 Tudor were 'a canny bag of crisps' They changed their name to Walkers and became a global brand! Their vans were blue and had a picture of Henry the 8th on the side. They cost 2p and their best flavours were Salt n vinegar, gammon and hotdog and onion. Those came in a bag which was a union flag. Once a crisp addict.... Jackie on 11:17 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26497 George you dont know that cos your DVD hasnt come yet! Jon on 13:56 1st-Feb-04 GMT #9f4-26499 Fantastic publicity with the Sunday Times CD. Click on music and TK blasts out without even selecting anything. Good write up on the CD, but only 2 out of 3 stars in the culture mag, some mistake there. Had a quick look at The Observer music section and it got 4 (out of 5) stars. Hopefully all we give you some more sales Vinny BUT my copy has still not arrived so I might have to copy Wayne if I see a copy on the shelves anywhere. AlexD on 15:18 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26500 A canny bag o' Tudor' Pickled Onion were outstanding. Jackie on 15:21 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26501 Alex- pickled onion Walkers are my faves- very hard to find though AlexD on 15:28 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26502 The Marmite ones that are out just now are superb. I also liked the Turkey and Paxo ones at Chrimbo. Cliff on 15:49 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f5d-26503 Not great for snogging though Jackie. cliff on 15:51 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f5d-26504 We had the turkey & paxo in our shop.Difficult to tell whether there really was paxo in it or they just said that for effect, crafty buggers. AlexD on 16:17 1st-Feb-04 GMT [walkers.corpex.com/cr15p5/packinfo.asp] #870-26505 So cynical Cliffie :) Jackie on 16:36 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26506 When I was a student Marks and Spencer in Liverpool did giant bags of lobster crisps. Honest. They were in a black bag. Not being a meat or fish eater I still found them amazing. Maybe we should start a campaign with M&S to reinstate them. You can tell it was the days when students got loans! I often bumped into famous people in M&S food dept. Ian Broudie was a great fan of chunky chicken:) Christine @ on 16:39 1st-Feb-04 GMT #671-26507 It seems I have created a monster with the crisp memory. Jackie it seems your competition for the Shields Gazette prize includes my Dad! He magnanimously said he didn't mind if you won one too! AlexD on 17:03 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26508 I didn't realise Walkers done Wotsits and Quavers, excellent hangover food, washed down with a suitably chilled bottle of Lucozade, two Anadin Extra and we're ready for another shot at the title. Cliff on 17:28 1st-Feb-04 GMT #cbd-26509 I remember sausage & tomato.Thinking about it though, they tasted the same as the turkey & paxo, smokey bacon and roast chicken.Marmite crisps taste the same as bbq beef and the worcester sauce flavour; do they really just keep the same flavours but give them a different name every few years? I think so. AlexD on 17:51 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26510 Either that or after years of drinking meths you have no taste buds. Having serious doubts about visiting your Greasy Spoon cafe. :) JoP on 17:58 1st-Feb-04 GMT #93b-26511 Anybody remember Castle crisps? They made them in a converted church in Castleford - they were the first crinkle cut ones I ever saw. Jackie on 18:15 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26512 Alex, any views on picked onion outer spacers? They still exist believe me. Pickled onion monster munch made my eyes water, however. Smiths crisps had the best salt n vinegar. They also did bovril flavour too. Too few brands now. Its either Walkers or nothing. AlexD on 18:29 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26513 Ah, a cheeky number, at first subtle they gradually progress to a crescendo of pickled onion experience of gargantuan proportions on the palate. I remember living in Jersey and the guy I shared a room with came back from Dublin with Tayto's. A life changing experience. Do you remember Rock'n'Rollers. #'New from Golden Wonder they're called Rock'n'Rollers' 'Betcha gonna like 'em'# JoP on 19:05 1st-Feb-04 GMT #93b-26514 Strictly speaking, are Monster Munch and Outer Spacers really crisps? I've just had a bag of Walkers' lamb and mint sauce, and I'm not impressed. Too minty - a bit like eating a bag of crisps straight after cleaning your teeth. christine @ on 19:07 1st-Feb-04 GMT #671-26515 We had a local pub (Kent) which used to stock Tayto's which meant that we had to have pligrimages to eat them every so often. The bar staff were amazed as we always knew what crisps we wanted but then struggled to sort out which drinks we were supposed to get. Sadly they haven't stocked them for a couple of years. Christine @ on 19:10 1st-Feb-04 GMT #671-26516 Though looking at my previous posting I realise now that we may have had something to do with their decision to stop stocking them! Cactus on 19:15 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26517 Tayto, a very special crisp. I think they were banned after the some nuclear weapons treaty was signed a few years back. If there still made then it's only a matter of time before Tayto Castle is targeted by George W Bush for the storage of WMD. I seem to recall they were very strong. JoP on 19:16 1st-Feb-04 GMT #93b-26518 Probably a very good cure for colds! Cliff on 19:19 1st-Feb-04 GMT #5d7-26519 does that mean you keep a pack under your pillow JoP? Cliff on 19:21 1st-Feb-04 GMT #5d7-26520 Christine, where exactly are you in the garden of England? Cactus on 19:21 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26521 I've still got my cold; I haven't actually been able to breath anything in for hours. I had to work all day too. And now I really want some crisps and I'm too ill to go to the shop for any. Life can be so hard sometimes. I think I'll go and buy myself some shoes to cheer myself up. JoP on 19:27 1st-Feb-04 GMT #93b-26522 Crush them up really small and then inhale them. If that doesn't work drag yourself out and gaze in Russel & Bromley's window. George on 19:32 1st-Feb-04 GMT #345-26523 Prefer Pringles crisps. Problem is eating a tube of them is the equivalent of about 6 or 7 bags of crips. They are addictive. Vinny on 19:43 1st-Feb-04 GMT [www.tayto.com/] #74b-26524 I think you are all finally cracking up; however, see website.......... AlexD on 19:52 1st-Feb-04 GMT #870-26525 Once you pop you can't stop. Cactus on 20:13 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26526 Just bought myself two new pairs of boots. It's really amazing the effect buying shoes has! I feel very many pounds lighter now. Cactus on 20:15 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26527 Tayto lives! Shame there isn't much 'Hot Gossip' on the site though. Everyone there must have had their vocal cords burnt out by the intense flavours. Cactus on 20:23 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26528 I can't trust Pringles. Be careful George. Everything from the shape of the packaging to the shape of the crisps should be a warning to the unwary. And that euro, one design fits all, packaging; that's not right is it? No local diversity there. All those ingredients in so many languages. What happened to just potatoes, salt and vegetable oil? And you're quite right about the 'real crisp packet' equivalent. No, I don't think Pringles should even be considered as crisps. Cactus on 20:26 1st-Feb-04 GMT #782-26529 Online crisp shopping! A box of 40 packets of Tayto straight to your door for just £12 including P&P! Wayne on 20:36 1st-Feb-04 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi] #c4f-26530 I'm crap at reviews so will leave it to the wordmeisters amongst you but have started a 'thread' on John Peel's site if anyone wants toadd to it (tried to avoid appearing to be plugging cos they get a bit sensitive if they think you are). JoP on 20:46 1st-Feb-04 GMT #93b-26531 What sort of heels have they got Cactus? Need to make sure you're at the forefront of fashion! JoP on 20:53 1st-Feb-04 GMT [www.jimmychoo.com] #93b-26532 Just for you, Cactus! Jackie on 20:55 1st-Feb-04 GMT #f12-26533 Never heard of Taytos. Must be a southern invention. Though my dad does call spuds taytos. As well as 'tayties'. As opposed to the scottish diction- 'tatties'. Which is what we call knots in your hair. Or should I say tats. AlexD on 21:21 1st-Feb-04 GMT [www.drmartens.com/_flash/default.asp] #870-26534 Tats has a slightly different meaning here, nevertheless still enjoyable. Jimmy Who? Arthur on 23:36 1st-Feb-04 GMT #8a3-26535 Er - is this the right place to mention the Undertones? Glasgow Film Theatre will knock a quid off the price of admission to the screening on production of a ticket for the King Tut's gig. also Michael Bradley will be interviewed on BBC Radio scotland's popular Fred McCauly moning show on Thursday 5 February at approximately 9.45am. Arthur on 23:38 1st-Feb-04 GMT #8a3-26536 Am I going mad or is John Lydon staring to look like Blakey of 'On the Buses' fame? AlexD on 00:14 2nd-Feb-04 GMT [www.phill.co.uk/comedy/buses/] #870-26537 Cliff and Vinny = Stan and Jack !! Don't mention Olive FFS. AlexD on 01:26 2nd-Feb-04 GMT #870-26538 And another thing. I've watched and watched where are you in the MPC video, I need exact times and positions. I'd like it to be 2:24 but I don't think it is.
