Great photo's Wayne! I liked the last one 'No photos' after 1am!' :-)

Paul on 09:55 1st-Aug-04 GMT #01c-30294
Great photos Wayne, Roll on Wolves.

Jane on 09:59 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30295
Hope your leg is better by then Paul!!

Paul on 10:04 1st-Aug-04 GMT #01c-30296
Thank you Jane, I'll still be in plaster at Wolves, but I can crawl there from home (should take about a day). At the moment I'll be happy when the plaster is just below the knee.

George on 10:38 1st-Aug-04 GMT #c8b-30297
Got to see the original band letter to John Peel, thanks to Vinny. God knows what John Peel's reply was. Took some deciphering. Superb bit of history. These days it would be typed in a computer and not have the same significance.

JoP on 10:51 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30298
I'm always impressed by the amount of Damian photos Wayne takes. Is he harbouring some secret desire we don't know about?

JoP on 11:04 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30299
And happy Yorkshire Day to everyone.

Christine on 11:06 1st-Aug-04 GMT #e9f-30300
It sounds like everyone had a fantastic night and the photos are excellent. So what were the highlights?

Cliff on 11:09 1st-Aug-04 GMT #934-30301
I'm disappointed with you George, you should have had a photocopier handy. How can we go about getting a copy of that?

George on 11:10 1st-Aug-04 GMT #c8b-30302
I take it the band will already be on the way back from the Shetland Islands. John told me they had to get up at 7am. Almost worth staying up all night and having a party. Only 6 weeks for the next gig. I'm sure the teachers amongst us, Jackie and Kevin, will agree that 6 weeks isn't a long time.

George on 11:16 1st-Aug-04 GMT #c8b-30303
Don't tell Vinny Cliff, but it was a photocopy I handed back to him. The original now has pride of place in my house. Didn't seem to be any proper posters advertising the gig in Glasgow. The only one I could borrow was a small A4 poster with the times the band were due on stage. The support band was The Red Eyes. King Tuts is a great small venue. The consensus of opinion seems to be that the band have sold it out twice so next time should upgrade to a larger venue. Heard several people trying to convince the band to play the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh.

George on 13:30 1st-Aug-04 GMT [www.gasun.net/THEUNDERTONES/Theundertones.htm] #c72-30304
Some pictures from the Warwick gig on the official site, and also a ticket from the cancelled Drogheda concert. Billy wore the same t-shirt in Glasgow on Friday. Michael was wearing a t-shirt promoting Derry Playhouse which is being featured in tonight's Restoration programme on BBC2. Did your video work Vinny recording footage of the Undertones from the Galway festival last weekend?

JoP on 13:47 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30305
I hope he washed it between gigs! BTW. Vote Gayle Mill!!!

Wayne on 13:59 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30306
I rang Alex at about 5:30 and he said he just driven past Tuts and seen George standing outside so I wandered over and found him. I asked if the sound check had started, he said he didn’t think so as he couldn’t hear any music coming from inside. I told him he wouldn’t, as you have to walk thru the bar and up a flight of stairs to get to the venue! I led the way to find the crew setting up but no band.

Wayne on 14:00 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30307
Shortly after John arrived and sat next to us and restrung his guitar while George and I 'interviewed’ him. Several of the band had taken their kids to the Pontins gig (and someone’s had enjoyed Pontin’s so much they had asked if they could live there :) ). They had to catch train to Aberdeen to get flight to Shetlands and had to get flight at 7am back. Later, when rest of band arrived, there was much laughter at jokes about recreating scenes from the Wicker Man, burning boats etc.

Wayne on 14:01 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30308
As George said, my son rang while we were talking to John to say he had just heard MPC on Clarks shoes TV ad and John confirmed it but hadn’t realised it was already on air. Mickey then arrived and replaced John next to us. We were talking about the set list and I joked they always start with JJ, he said maybe they should change it all round for the night (and they started with Here Comes… followed by JJ).

Wayne on 14:02 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30309
George asked him about the new song “”Condemning Me” and Mickey laughed and said “”Recommending Me”” :). Damian arrived but still no Paul or Billy (who I think had driven over) so I went in search of Kevin who had rung to say he was lost in one-way system. Returned with Kevin, and Billy arrived a little late and sound check got underway. Heard a few songs including Recommending Me (and a lot of joking) and then left for the Griffin, leaving George holding the fort.

Wayne on 14:03 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30310
Standing waiting for the gig to start I said to the guy next to me “”Did you come last time?”” he said he had and asked my name, and turned out we was Delboy so was able to put another face to a name and introduce him to the rest of group after (he had brought a mini bus full down for the gig). Gig was great, much less crowded than last time and no idiots in the crowd. Band seemed to enjoy themselves and it was great that they came back after the final encore to TK again. Afterwards the band were in the bar right until we were all ordered out.

Wayne on 14:04 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30311
Great to meet everyone again and looking forward to the next gig. Sounds like Manchester will be well attended by fans from all over so should be a good night. George- I spent the afternoon with my kin in Glasgow and it had to have been close to the 80’s-glorious weather.

JoP on 16:01 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30312
Someone's just ridden down my back street on a horse. A bloody big one as well. Never been sure about horses.

JoP on 16:14 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30313
And I'm not entirely sure why I just posted that.

Lewis on 17:57 1st-Aug-04 GMT #9f4-30314
Everybody make it home ok? Great night, deafinately a better gig than the one back in Feb,talked to John after the show and he said he thought that was one of the best shows they had ever done.Nice to meet you at last VINNY,hope you enjoyed yourself.

lewis on 17:58 1st-Aug-04 GMT #9f4-30315
Good pictures Alex and Wayne.

LEWIS on 18:00 1st-Aug-04 GMT #9f4-30316

Jane on 19:53 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30317
Where's Wilke?

JoP on 20:01 1st-Aug-04 GMT #93a-30318
He was still alive at 10.45 on Saturday morning.

Jane on 20:14 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30319
Must be still recovering! :-)

Jane on 20:17 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30320
Excellent review Wayne.

Wayne on 20:19 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30321
Wilke's pc is/was SNAFU I believe. FOrgot to mention that Thrill Me consistently gets as big a response from the crowd at gigs as any of the old classics. Just to elaborate on George's description of the final chorus to Recommending Me (To You)- the letters to Recommending are spelled out one at a time.

Jane on 20:42 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30322
Sorry to be blonde, but I understand the FU bit but what about the 'SNA' bit Wayne? Does it mean that its broken??? :-)

Wayne on 22:19 1st-Aug-04 GMT #755-30324
Situation Normal All F U

George on 22:48 1st-Aug-04 GMT #481-30325
Just been checking directions from Manchester to Wolverhampton. Doesn't look that bad for driving. That's if I can find the venue in Manchester. Not looking forward to driving in Manchester though. Look's complicated.

Jane on 22:59 1st-Aug-04 GMT #431-30326
Cheers Wayne! Eight days till Scottish visitors come. So much to do to prepare but so little time to do it in!

Vinny on 23:36 1st-Aug-04 GMT #a75-30327
Manchester to Wolves is 77.5 miles/ 1 hour 34 minutes driving. See www.theaa.co.uk and go to route planner. Still in recovery mode :-))

doninblack on 01:17 2nd-Aug-04 GMT #a05-30329
Agree it was a superb gig at King Tuts. Great to hear Crisis of Mine again, Paul doing a classy job on the vox. Its Going to Happen was the best I've ever heard it live, and overall the sound was very good. Band on top form and all the classics sounded great with other highlights for me being YGMN, Get Over You and True Confessions. Good to bump into some of you again for a quick chat. My other half enjoyed her first ever punk gig, and Billy has a fan, cos she says he's the best looking. Hope to see the lads back in Scotland soon. Top gig!!!!!!!
