My first wage was £1560p.a. which rose to £1650 after 3 months, then £1750 at the next proper pay review. The best thing about earning so little is that it was almost tax free, whereas now it feels as though the Government almost gets a bigger slice than me.

Cliff on 10:24 1st-Oct-06 GMT #dd0-40276
Wilke, yes I think thats right and towards the end they tried to be a bit more 'rocky'('fox on the run' 'action' etc).

wilke on 13:41 1st-Oct-06 GMT #30e-40278

Cliff/Wilke - Wasn't Brian Connolly of Sweet somehow related to 'Taggart'?

JoP on 18:08 1st-Oct-06 GMT #27a-40280
I got 320 quid a month as a student nurse :-/ And they took a tenner a week off me for rent.

JoP on 18:09 1st-Oct-06 GMT #27a-40281
Would that be Perth, Western Australia??

jackie on 18:28 1st-Oct-06 GMT #578-40282
Didnt spot arthur at the end of my road doing the run but did see tens of thousands of brilliant peoploe putting themselves through hell for a good cause. Respect to them. Hope the blisters arent too big Arthur!!!

jackie on 18:29 1st-Oct-06 GMT #578-40283
George were you in your usual place next to the BBC at White Mare Pool celeb spotting??? Why werent you running is what I'd like to know:-)

Cliff on 21:29 1st-Oct-06 GMT #a93-40284
George/Jackie, I'm getting a bit worried now, its 9.30PM.Do me a favour, jump in the car and have a quick look round for Arthur ;-)

donald on 21:36 1st-Oct-06 GMT #211-40285
Think I saw arthur on the TV, through the mist with chariots of fire playing appeared a sweaty man with an undertones T shirt with afish supper in one hand and the other hand was sneakily holding onto the back of a wheelchair competitor. Hope your feeling OK.

donald on 21:39 1st-Oct-06 GMT #211-40287
Hawk, I think Brian connely and Taggart were brothers. The change to rockier glam rock was probably down to Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman who wrote loads all the big hits for Sweet, Mud, Alvin Stardust and I think Cliffs fave the Rubettes. Biggest glam rock track at moment is 'Shoot the runner' the new Kasabian single - brilliant.

Cliff on 22:18 1st-Oct-06 GMT #19b-40288
Didn't they write for Suzi Q also?

AlexD on 22:30 1st-Oct-06 GMT #a66-40289
They weren't brothers, it's more like second cousins twice removed. Mark McManus was a regular in one of the pubs I worked in. Nice guy, great stories about Skippy.

George on 22:44 1st-Oct-06 GMT #60a-40290
Arthur's finished the Great North Run. I checked the results on the official website. I've moved a mile along the road Jackie and now watch just before the 5 mile mark at The Black Bull, Wardley. Drove along part of the course tonight next to Gateshead Stadium and the course is waterlogged in places.

donald on 23:04 1st-Oct-06 GMT #211-40291
Sure the waterlogging isnt Arthur sweat George? Well done arthur.

AlexD on 23:08 1st-Oct-06 GMT #a66-40292
Well done Arfur, position 35722, time 03:31:54. See if you hadn't stopped for a couple of pints you could've been a contender.

hawk on 23:50 1st-Oct-06 GMT #8af-40293
Congrats Arthur.
