Festivals. Well basically it all stemmed from last year. We were invited to play in Galway with an Irish band called the 'Saw Doctors' just to do a couple of songs and that went quite well. We just did 2 songs wasn't it - yes 2 - with 'Saw Doctors' singing. And because that went well and was good fun so we thought we'd get a singer. So we found Paul - Paul McLoone here.
Jules Carling
So your the singer Paul
Paul McLoone
Yes
Jules Carling
What do you
Paul McLoone
Well not a lot I just do as I'm told
Michael Bradley
Feargal didn't want to have anything to do with the band for a long long time - and up until now we says that's OK. Then we thought four of want to do it and he doesn't that's OK No problem. so we got Paul who we knew from Derry a long time ago. We tried him out - we never sort of auditioned him we asked him to sing and it sounded OK. Its a bad idea in theory but its actually quite good in practice.

The great thing about the shows you've been doing - for many people who have been fans of your music

Just have never got an inkling they'd ever get to see you live. So they'll be a lot of excited people out there today and you've 70 minutes with which to thrill them. What are you going to do
Billy Doherty
Well its more less all the hits and most of the tracks will be from he first album. We did a warm up concert in the Mean Fiddler last night and it was amazing and it went extremely well for us - so we should be able to replicate that tonight hopefully.

A lot of your tunes were 'perfect pop' in the way that they were very - very short - under 3 minutes as well. Do you make them more expansive for the festival crowd ?
Billy Doherty
No we just more or less stick to the original songs. I think the longest is only 3 minutes so its under the speed limit if you know what I mean. The songs are generally about 2 minutes - 2 minutes 30.
Gideon Cole
No fiddley guitar solos inserted
Billy Doherty
No
Gideon Cole
No prog rock moments
Billy Doherty
No - not at all we couldn't manage that - its difficult getting through 2 and half minutes.

What about the idea that people are going to be introduced to your music who weren't even around in the late 70s early 80s ? That's a good thing for you isn't it
John O'Neill
Hopefully - music's sort of gone retrogressive - before punk you know. It'll be nice to remind people you can have good pop sounds that are under 2 and half minutes - nothing over 3 minutes. So that what you'd like to remind people - you can do that.
